1-2 In a CA Indian Casino

V is older gentleman on H's right, V has been playing a lot of pots, pretty aggressively, but seems solid. He has been opening frequently from all positions, but hasn't made any outrageous moves or super donkish plays.

H as been playing quite tight and probably too weakly, struggling to stay aggressive while being mostly card dead for several hours. Note: H was planning on leaving table after this hand, this fact prob contributed to H's play (i.e. not just mucking pf)

V is BB w $450
H is UTG w $300

Preflop: H (A8) limps (I know this is pretty questionable, but limps all around were not super uncommon and I had that "1 more hand" mentality)
4 more limps around to V in BB who raises to 12, H calls, UTG+2 calls

Flop: 3 players, Pot $42, A 8 J

V bets $15, H calls, UTG+2 folds (prob should have raised? I remember thinking he most likely had an A and since he was pretty aggressive I should let him bet into me once more, not super worried about the FD)

Turn: 2 players, Pot $72, 2

V checks, H bets $30 (too small?) V calls

River: 2 players, Pot $132, Q

V bets $100, H ?

Strange hand, as villain acts like a guy who has the ace and then is afraid of the flush on the turn, but just donks into the river... Of course he could have been trapping a bit, but if you wanna get real creative you could shove here. If he doesn't have the flush, he might even fold AxQs.

You'll feel like a donk when he has the flush though.

I called, even though in retrospect I'm not beating much that he would make that river bet with unless it's a bluff...

He showed K10 for broadway

Well, change your read from decent player to fish, rebuy, and get your moniez back. The hundred was well worth it for the read, and I think I would have played this much like you did. I would definitely wanna know what hands he took this line with.

Did he have a spade? Your turn bet was too small of course, but I think you knew that. If he had a high spade, then obviously his play was not donkish.

Raise the flop. What's the worst hand he bets the river with?

Raise flop. It's a wet board and you want to get heads up with the guy who probably has something like AK. Inviting people behind in with random draws isn't great.

As played, bet more on turn. You're pricing in stuff like broadway gutshots with a spade (I assume he had a spade given his turn call).

I'd fold the river because his value range is thin but his bluff range is nonexistent. Try to come up with a bluff hand villain could have played like this. It's pretty hard. Something like KQ with a spade is a reasonable bluff here but it simply wouldn't occur to 99% of players.
