Let's say you're playing in a 25-50 full-ring no-limit home game with a straddle frequency on par with most mid- and high-stakes no-limit games in casinos, and the median buy-in for this game is 6,000. You decide to start most sessions with 5,000, but you'll occasionally load-up to 10,000 or 25,000 under the right conditions. It's a typically loose game, and you're giving action, playing hands like JTo, K2s, and 96s from early position. You're loose and aggressive, winning slightly more than your fair share of pots, and I'd estimate your hourly variance at 4,250-4,500 per hour.

If they rake 3% of each pot with no cap, how much do you think you're paying on average to play in that game?

My rough guess: $250-300 per hour, plus tips

Having played in 2 5 NL uncapped 5% rake game in the past (with huge straddles and some absolutely clueless opponents), tight aggressive becomes the default style of play as you do not want to be playing too many pots. Also, that game played as no flop/no drop, so I purposely bought in short to have opportunity to pick up dead money with no drop in good preflop shove spots.
