I'm just getting back into poker after a long hiatus, so feel free to let me know where I'm messing up.

Live 1/3
$275 effective

I have QdQc UTG and Open to $15. I think that I can open a little bigger since I rarely get 3-Bet in live cash games but interested on everyone else's thoughts on open sizes.

UTG +2 (solid reg), 3-Bets to $55
Fish on the Button Cold Calls the $55, he's been calling raises with 94s, Q9o, and playing almost all his hands for the past few hours.

Folds back to me.

Here's my first real decision. My initial thought was to 4-Bet and if I run into Aces or Kings then it is what it is. But that felt kind of breakeven against someone that is pretty solid, plus I couldn't find a sizing that didn't feel awkward in the moment. Then I thought that if I call, I can keep in the 3-bettor's Jacks and Tens while also keeping the fish in the pot.
So I call the $55

Flop ($160) 8c6d5s
I check, UTG +2 bets $55, Button calls

I felt pretty good about this flop, I'm still ahead of AK, JJ and TT. The button could have some sets but he's going to have a decent amount of pairs, gutshots, maybe open ended. The pots $270 and I have about $220 behind, so I decide to just get it in here with Queens.

Felt like a very confusing situation all around, but I'm interested to hear other's thoughts on it. In hindsight I prefer just getting it in pre.

Go to $150 preflop. It's an weird size but gives you some chance of UTG+2 folding and fish calling.
If you raise your committed if UTG+2 shoves but expect to be behind more then ahead if he does. He could go with AK though so you can't fold.
As played the flop shove is fine. With a big over pair and SPR < 1 you can't fold. You not folding any hands that beat you but can get called by some worse and your situation is far more likely to get worse then better on latter streets.

$100 pre flop when it gets back to you/decide, or shove pre flop picking up $125 oop not a bad thing if they both fold. If they both call, shove on any non a k flop with your stack size. Not sure AP, a lot of fishy players play 97s OTB (for this reason). I might just call? and see what happens OTT.

Pre is a mix at this level between fold call or 4bet. Depends entirely on the players.

I limp in but that's my style.

Very difficult spot preflop, imo. What does UTG+2 think of us? How often does UTG+2 3bet? If he's solid, he may 3bet more than most. But if he sees us as even remotely nitty, this is scary facing a 3bet after we've opened UTG; even solid players who 3bet a lot know who to slow down against. Yeah, we're getting an overlay from the fish. And the hand will likely play out more honestly postflop with the fish protecting the pot (i.e. UTG+2 will only be cbetting for value). But for this large price, I could find a fold a lot of the time.

On the flop, a solid player should never be cbetting AK here, imo. And he's also got to be cautious with small overpairs (although a 1/3 PSB is that).

It's a tough spot all round. But I sometimes lean to nitty folds *but* it really depends on what 3bettor thinks of us.

You need to be deeper than $275 to effectively maneuver pre and post. I'd be topping off to whatever the table max is.

$15 open at 1/3 is fairly standard in many games. So when the 3B to $45+ comes, it sets up this awkwardness when you're short stacked.

OOP and short stacked facing a 3B and a loose call, I think I just want to get it in pre. If we're losing to AA/KK now, we're probably losing post flop, so I'm not worried about that. I don't want to have to play OOP and multi-way post flop with less than 2 SPR.

As played, you flop an over-pair and the SPR is less than 1 coming back around to you, so it's an automatic jam at that point.

$15 is fine pre. I just jam pre w/ stack sizes -- that or fold vs. a solid player who 3bet from UTG+2, but that's kind of gross.

As played, jam is fine.
