Live cash game. 5-5 NL 300-500 buy in.

BTN: $500
Hero (UTG): $400
UTG+2: $500

Hero dealt AK

Hero bet $25, UTG +2 Call, BB Calls

Flop: 10JQ

BB Check, Hero bet $40, UTG +2 raise $100, BB call $100, Hero call $60

Turn: 4

BB Bet $150, Hero Call, UTG +2 fold

River: A

BB bet All-in, Hero Call $125

Is it the correct decision to just shove on flop?

Yeah, you should have shoved flop if you thought you had the best of it. There are two pairs, sets and draws in villains range, none of which are folding flop. Shove, then call it a cooler.

+ 1 to Luckbox
Also why did you call Turn ? it' like 375 in pot villian bets 150 and you don't reraise to 125 more !! Hi's not folding many worse hands BUT can CF River with lots of missed draws !

BTW on the flop i'd still call because there are very few cards that are scary for you and if we raise we can fold out many worse hands that we'd better have in pot

Agree with Luckbox.

Why didn't you bet more on the flop? I think that makes it even easier for you to get your money in on the flop.

I don't mind the flop call.
River is a must shove.

Cooler, regardless.

Without a live read you are going broke IMO. your hand even has alot of equity against a made flush (less the nuts)

I didn't have much of a read on the guy since he had just sat down. BUt what I did notice that he let out a sigh on the flop and looked disgruntled to call the 3 bet on the flop. I honestly took this as a sign of strength, or that he had the same hand as mine. When he led out on the turn, I was felt like he probably had a flush, but I thought my hand was still live if a river heart came. But at the point where I call on the turn, there is no way I can fold for an extra 125.

Thanks for the responses, I should have just gotten it in on flop.

This is one of those hands where it depends on the dynamics of how the ppl play. What scares me is when the bb does the sighing then calls 2 bets cold on the flop. I'd def call the flop raise then give up ott. Even tho we're getting a decent price to call we either are drawing to the royal or when we do hit the 2nd nf we could still be dead or can get no value so usually we are 7 outs to the flush giving us around 15% and when we get there we don't always get paid or we are 2nd best. If bb hadn't given the speech otf I would happily get this in.

pretty sure you're dead on the river, bb's c/c on the flop is super alarming. only hands i expect to beat on the end are Kx9h, Kx8h, or the rare 9h8x/9h7x/9h6x ? and Ax9h would prob just give up. everyone always puts initial raiser on AK too.

having the Kh makes this hand really annoying.

id also ship the flop this shallow and pray to be live.

All the signs were saying he was strong, when he sighs and then leads out on the flop, almost everytime he has a flush. I just got too attached bc I flopped the nut straight with the second nut flush. Also, I had honestly just played 3 hands with him so I had no clue what kind of player he was. This made me want to call more bc I didnt really have an idea on how spewy he was.

I know this is a type of hand that is player specific as DueceSeven said, but in the long run, I think I lose more value folding this hand

anybody here like a minraise 4! otf. If V1 shoves 5! you get it in but if he calls and leads OTT for value, you MIGHT be able to convince yourself to lay it down.
any thoughts (not sure if I like what I just said, but it is another approach)

shoulda bet flop more or should have shoved to the $60 raise

There's $75 in the pot on the flop. On a draw-heavy board like this you just plain need to bet more. Make it $60 or $65 on the flop and then you just shove when it gets back to you. No way you're getting away from this.
