BR and the transition to /10 BR and the transition to /10

Hey gang,

Long-time/first-time. My question is perhaps best directed to the BR subforum in general, and if I should move it, nbd, but it is a specific question and I am after targeted pragmatic advice from a specific subset of players who have been there, more than a noodly math-centric answer. I have more or less familiarized myself with that aspect of it.

So. I've been playing a bit lately. A lot for me as of the last few years. Got in probably 30 or 40 hours last four weeks. Have a break coming up during a transition period, plan to play a lot more. Been playing $1/2 at home games and casinos. Playing fairly competently, working on my game constantly, and playing a lot with a strong player who is informally coaching me.

If you were me, and you had, say, $7.5g in play, do you think it is a mistake to take some of that and play $5/10?

Sketching in the details, the money is in play in the sense of it's my poker budget. The transition mentioned above is to a more lucrative job, so I believe I can be fairly dispassionate about losses. However, $7.5g and I'm felted for a few months.

Any thoughts appreciated or if there's an identical thread, link much appreciated.

Are you winning at 1/2?
Just move up to 1/3 or 2/5 first, then 5/10.
Also 7.5k Isn't a big enough BR for 5/10.

Don't shot take at 5/10 until you have that roll over 11k....

More than 11k for sure. I'd stay away from 5/T for a while.

I'd wait until I have about 10k before I even take a shot at 2/5. At 5k I'd start playing 1/3. At 4k I'd grind out 1/2. And I would not shot take 5/10 without 20k, and if you lose 2 BIs you should drop down. But then again I play semi-pro and although my BR is replenishable, it represent a significant portion of my life roll and simply depositing another 5k into my BR is not an option to counter short term variance.

See the WR and bankroll thread. It is on the first page of the forum.

Too lazy to move thread, just locking it.
