Bottom set cooler(?) Bottom set cooler(?)

My first table of the night, seems pretty dead and nitty, but later in 20 minutes more people show up, an obvious maniac on my right as well with a huge stack so I decide to stay and do my best. V is young asian, no info on him really might be fish or reg idk.

8max, 1/2$, I am BU with 88. Action: HJ raise to 8 ( standard raise size on that table ), I call, SB 3Bet to 31, HJ call, I call. Flop AT8r, we hit a bottom set. SB bets 1/3 35$, HJ min-raise to 70$, I call, SB tanks for 1 minute and folds ( SB seems like a decent reg, later announced he folded AK ). River 5 of clubs flush draw opens, HJ thinks for 30-40 seconds, asks me to show him how much chips I got, ( I had 260$, SPR on turn was 1 ) he bets 200$, I go all in, he calls. We run it twice, he shows AA and we are busto. I think this is a dead cooler because we can't fold on the flop, and on the turn we need about 35% eq to break even. I still wonder if HJ could have AK that plays this way and tries to get value from weaker aces or smth, what do you guys think?

I would probably give him range like [ AA , TT, AT o/s , A8 o/s,
T8 s ] , so if AK could also play this line the call is much more profitable

AA should always be 4bet here; he needs to drive the button (ie you) out. Same goes for TT tbh. I know you think he's bad but you have to discount those hands at least somewhat. As for the hand this is one for BBV

Yeah, given that he slow played aces pre, as well as the fact that you can't really have aces, just be glad you weren't deeper. On top of that the other player kind of repped an ace as well. You might get away from set over set a few times in your life. This is clearly not one of them. AT is far more likely than aces. A8 and t8 are possible.

Not going to assume villain will have AA pre. Going to assume for the most part he has ATs and TT for value which means 3 combos you lose to and 2 you beat, so I won't be getting away. Also possible he could have a hand like AK and maybe some bluffs, possibly A8s, T8s depending on how wide he is.

Preflop is really unfortunate. You could argue for going 3b or fold and mainly folding this, but this deep on the button is probably one of the spots where you can do call the open raise and overcall after the small 3bet in position, and you're just going to get stacked.

I don’t see stack sizes but I’m going to 3b that flop a lot of the time.
