(Backdoor) Two Pair Against Better - Value Raise or Call River? (Backdoor) Two Pair Against Better - Value Raise or Call River?

Hi All,

First time post here. Was hoping to get a bit of input on a possible leak. Was playing in a 7-handed yesterday. I open raise from UTG + 2 (MP) with Jh9h. I open pre 3 to 12 (blinds 1-3) with Jh9h. SB calls (300 behind), BB raises to 26 (300 behind). He's made such a raise once or twice since I've sat with him in 2 hours. Otherwise he's in between tight and slightly loose. I call, SB calls.

Flops kh5h3c. He bets 26. I think about raising given other caller and decent flop, but call given smaller bet. SB folds. Turn 9s. He bets 50, I call. River Jd. He bets 50 again.

Flattening of bets indicates to me AK is a possibility. I also think random PP is in range, maybe KQ, sets, KJ, and in my mind air. So two questions:

- Given context I've provided, does the range seem right?
- Assuming it's semi right, should I be raising (or shoving to represent missed flush and get paid for two pair) or just calling?

No doubt I can get a better spot (i.e., the nuts); however, is this +EV? If so, how +EV?

Thanks in advance!

Definite shove. It would only be another $100 for him to call. Could do with more info such as whether you saw his hands when he did those raises previously, but you could definitely be getting value of 'expected' hands like AK, KQ, AA. I dont expect him to do that 3bet PF with a hand like KJ but i dont really have any info.

There are so many combinations of TPTK or AA here. I even think it might not be AA because people usually play AA like the nuts and I think he would really be going nuts instead of slowing down. There are 3 combinations of KK, but you think he would be trying to get all the money in here instead of just betting 50 OTR.

Depending on villain it varies between a shove and a min raise here. Some players really don't like putting in tons of money with TPTK and would fold (I would), others are very 'f*** it, I can't fold' and will call down. Depending on the player I would shove, min raise to 50, or min raise to 70 with every intention calling off if he puts it all in.

You can totally raise for value here, but the best way to do it needs a decent live read and a better description of the Vil.

Much thanks!

Raidion - what else would helpful to know about the Vil (for this and future posts)?

What I didn't provide is that I have seen him call light one time on the river (middle pair, could only beat air). It was just a check call and not for whole stack, but a decent sized bet (~70 in a pot of 70).

Definite shove. He'll have AK/AA way more of then than KK/KJ

Assuming that's the case, my question is this. What mechanisms do you use to cope/rebound from this if he happened to be in the 30% of the range. Needless to say, not nearly just applicable to this case, but looking for mechanisms to stay positive.
