I'm dealt AJs in the CO and the straddle is 10, 1/2 game and I limp, 3 other players limp for 10 and the flop is J89hh and the CO, middle aged European bets half pot for 20, I declare a raise for 60 and not very quickly and hesitantly put in the chips for the raise and the CO shoves AI 120 for 60 more (he may have bought in for 200 and was short stacked)?? he says he has 2 pair and he flopped it without hesitation and shows me the J of clubs, is this a fold?
I know that JT is a possibility but now he doesn't have flush draws, doesn't have QT, probably not JJ or KK, AA

Just call. It is probably JT/JQ often enough to make it ok given the price you're getting.

Also, limping along here to a 10 dollar straddle is awful. You should be raising to 30 or folding pre...makes playing the hand a whole lot easier.

yeah for the price I was getting afterwards I regretted it, but it was early in the session so I wonder if there is an advantage to folding here
so perhaps JT,JQ,KJ are a large part of his range, his short stack makes his range look weaker possibly. this is a game with several educated people, I don't know anything about the middle aged gentleman
by limping I was considering the profit I might lose for the times that I flop a flush draw or straight draw, 2 pair, trips, but it is kind of fishy to draw to flushes

Seems like he senses weakness since that's all you put off with this line. I probably call in your shoes since he could certainly be bluffing. This hand is a lot simpler with a raise pre and a hefty cbet. What are everyone's thoughts on hero's flop raise?

I really dont like any of hero's options on the flop. I can't decide which one I hate the least...I probably hate calling and raising blank turns the least... but its close.

Raise this preflop. Don't be scared to raise those straddles. You can make more money in those pots. Not only do people hate to fold post flop but when they don't you will win more money. You can get 3 streets of value from hands like this heads up a lot from people cuz they didn't want to fold their straddle. Other than the mistake pre and what has happened post flop just call it off and hope hes lying or you get lucky and negate it. in too deep now.

I pretty much agree with this completely.

You will end up with a similar amount in the pot on the flop, but fewer people to play against, which means a lower chance of people with better hands. If you raised preflop, and if the guy actually DID have something like a J9/J8, would he call your raise?
