I would advocate 3betting AJs even against a good reg/pro pre. I don't advocate doing very much cold calling preflop if we aren't BB.

The fact that villain showed up with ATo just means that in the future we should be even more excited to 3bet AJs here. Maybe OP didn't know that hand was in villain's range before hand. I certainly did not based on the description of villain. So maybe that's results oriented, but it is what it is.

@mlark you're a bit result's orientated.
ATo means jack when hero has never mentioned him showing up with a hand as weak as ATo oop "so the 3b was for value".. just happened to be the case here

Villain could have folded at any point, hero was just to passive to find out post flop.
He’s def a rec, not some online pro. He’s just very passionate about the game and likes using big terms at the table.

Dude, why are you 3b AJs against a reg, tons of worse hands to bluff with in position.

It's a frequency of his folding where you make long term profit pre flop.

You can call in position and increase flop bluff frequency against a capable regs c-betting range. Sometimes with nut equity.

Value bet some flops in position etc etc..

As played, you have a range of hands that should hit this flop a ton, cbet, barrel or three barrels, doesn't matter really, it's his frequency of folding that nets you profit.

His pre flop OOP call against a capable reg, yourself, likely tells me he would 4b his best hands most of the time against you. His range cannot handle a barrage of bets when the pot is growing larger and your range is uncapped.

Good luck
this guy made an account just to give you bad advice in a condescending tone. thats how you know you've made it

i cant imagine not simplifying preflop down to 3betting vs anyone, but if you were going to pick and choose opponents to flat against, 40 yr old fish that talks about solvers unironically at the table while opening ATo ep and calling an mp 3b ain't it.

If gigglinggoblin were the sort to create sockpuppet accounts, I'd almost suspect SpartanReborn was one of them. But the Bayesian prior probaility is so low that I think we can rule this out.

In any event, their advice is so horribly bad that I think we can ignore them and move on.
