Adjusting Preflop EP-MP ranges based on game conditions Adjusting Preflop EP-MP ranges based on game conditions

Curious to hear how ppl adjust EP-MP preflop ranges based on game dynamics/stacks/players etc. Clearly in LP you can make all sorts of custom tweaks, but do people mix things up much earlier than HJ and why/how (and not counting tilt) ?

Not sure if the question is geared toward live play or not. I think you should open suited aces, 77+, and good suited connectors from every position. When you have initiative and are repping a tight ep range, the only hands that suffer are the mediocre offsuit hands like KJ/AJ etc. I'd open up more beyond that if there was a weak player one of the blind positions, or if the players on the cutoff and button are too tight.

I don't think there's much merit to "mixing things up," just open hands that are vacuum profitable, as wide a range as you can get away with given the table texture.

IDK, this seems a way too broad subject to go over in a forum.

For example, against tough opponents IP online I tend to open small pairs every time so I can not be outplayed on a low flops but actually drop a lot of scs off my range. This is just a one adjustment. Against other kind of tables I might drop small pairs of the range completely and open more high cards and good scs.

Dgaf had a decent thread on this subject.

Jus5 one piece of advice on this subject. As games get tougher I feel that dropping some of my utg junk (I.e. 56s, 67s,etc) has improved my winrate. If you're lagging it up and going to p,ay these types of hands 4 ways oop they're just not profitable IMO. Obviously if stacks are shallow they're less valuable as well andsucks when you commit vs. Shortstack on a 7 high board w top pair.

Everything else is cream cheese.

def open more in ep if a fish is in the blinds,
when eff stack increases , ur ep open range should increase with a lot of suited connectors/one gappers maybe

I was thinking of live 5/10 when I asked that question - I should have been more clear.

So just to take the range that you suggested above - would you modify it and how if some of the following table dynamics were in play:

1. Most flops are going 3-5 way even after EP opens and stacks are 150bbs+; OR
2. Players are 3-betting a lot from LP; OR
3. CO/BTN are very tough, stacks are deep and they flat wide and attack postflop agressively; OR
4. You are playing a shallower stack, say 70bb-100bb.

Can you please link the DGAF thread?
