Game is £1/£2(4/8/16 straddled) i've got £900 utg+2 and have put a super straddle on to £16.
Mp calls £16 and button makes it £40 to go. It folds to me and i look down to see AA. If button had £200ish i'd just ship but he has me covered (approx £1200).
I raise to £125, mp folds and button calls.
Flop is J97 rainbow. I bet £100 and he calls.
Turn is 10 i check and he checks behind
River is 10 i check he bets £200 I call
Please critique my play (flame me) i think i played it badly. Maybe i should have potted the flop. I dislike AA when i'm deep. Does anyone just flat with it OOP deep?

I would make the 3-bet to 160 preflop so that we can create a stack-to-pot-ratio of around 2:1 on the flop and seriously narrow villain's range to e.g. QQ/KK/AA.

If he calls, there will be 336 in the pot and we will have 740 in our stack. We can bet 200 into 336 on the flop and shove 540 into 736 on the turn.

As played, hero's line is fine. With 250 in the pot and 775 in our stack, I don't really want to bet/commit on this flop.

Calling the river bet of 200 into 466 is fine. He can be doing this with QQ or KK.

I agree with the basic concepts above, but I dislike the bet OTF that was lower than the PFR. That just stinks of weakness. Better to check flop in that case, imo.

You are not deep.

Whenever there is a straddle, just consider that your new "blinds" level and calculate new stack sizes.

In this case, since straddle is 16 and eff. stacks are 900, you are playing 56 BB deep.

river is probably a call on some level. i assume he bets his made hands ott and we now beat a ton of 2pair combos.

I hate board run out. I think I check flop.

Thanks for the advice guys. I say deep because the table max is £250. I really disliked the flop and the board got worse so i kept the pot small. I didnt want to bet more OTF as i don't want to commit on this board with just an overpair. I guess a bigger raise preflop weeds out the more speculative hands. I find it easier to play the more drawy hands so was a bit unsure what to do here. On a dryer flop I'd just bomb it every street
