2/5 with effective stacks of $500.

It is a day game with a bunch of regulars. Nothing crazy.

1 limper to me in the HJ with AA. I raise to 25. Only CO and BB call.

Flop ($75)
822r.

Checked to me, I bet 50, one caller.

Turn ($175)
Ace

We each have about $425 left.

Checked to me, I check.

My reasoning here is:

If he has something that I would 'miss value' from, like 88 or A2, then I will be getting a lot of value by overraising his river bet. We will probably be getting it all-in regardless of whether or not I had bet the turn.

If he's behind with something like 66, he wouldn't have called a turn bet anyway and has a chance to catch up and make a ton more (big implied odds on a long shot).

And if he has something like 66 or 99 and would have folded the turn or 3 streets of value, then my weakness shown on the turn will probably get me extra money when he calls the river as a bluff catcher.

And some opponents might have folded low pairs to a turn bet but turn them into a bluff on the river since I checked the Ace. They'll try to use it as a scare card to get me off something like TT.

What do you think?

Your thought process isn't bad here, but I bet solely because if you don't it's damn near impossible to play for stacks. Go for the home run. U might get a smallish river bet called by a hand that catches a pair on the river, but that's not what I play for.
Btw, any type of villain description/hero image would be helpful/vital.

Line looks good to me.

Given old day regs, I think it's the type of situation where your not getting value unless someone spikes a smaller boat on the river.

Really? vs old man day nits I'm betting small OTR

Induces a raise from 2x and smaller boats. Value from small PPs.

I like it. I also think most small-mid pairs are going to fold to a 1/2 PSB when the Ace hits.

I'm betting since I want to play for stacks on the off-chance he wants to pay me.

I think against a day reg when you check back turn you can actually look strong or give off that you have showdown value as the A on the turn is a good card for us to double barrel as pfr...I like betting turn, try to get stacks in

Obviously it's very villain-dependent - but as a general rule in these situations, I don't mind the check-back to be honest. True, it reduces the chance of getting the guy's entire stack, but unless he has a hand specifically like A2 or 88, you're not getting his stack regardless. And if he -does- have that hand it will all go in on the river anyway, since he was just hoping to check-raise you on the turn.

Some villains won't call a turn bet, scared of having to face another bet on the river, but will call a half-pot bet on the river. If that was your read, than I like the play.

As described "daytime game with regs" I picture a bunch of 60+ yr old men.

AP check on the turn is great. Obv he doesn't have an ace and you checking on turn behind him is deceptive enough to make a daytime player think the A is a scare card for you.

Regardless of river I value bet 65 into pot forcing the daytime nit to sigh call

+1, you are looking to get one more big bet on the river

The line is fine, the thought process is fine. I check it too and bomb 4/5 or 3/4 the river, maybe pot it sometimes.
