I was playing a $40-100 buy-in NL game with a 1-2 blind structure and was up 100. I look down to see A9s clubs. I make it 6. I get 4 callers. The flop comes A-8-4 rainbow, no clubs. I make it 10. my now lone opponent makes it 30. I fold. Was this the right call?
First of all, without better reads on your opponents I'd have just as good a chance of predicting the weather 2 weeks from now as telling you if you made the correct decision or not. But usually our top pair 9 kicker is beat here.
Second of all, what position are you in? If in early position I would just fold preflop as most of the time we'll be up against other ace hands with better kickers if we bet and get called on an ace high board. Rest of the hand looks ok, maybe a tad bigger pre if we are raising for value.
More importantly than the answer (which is impossible to answer), find a better game. If you dont have a better option close, host one. You can probably make some money on the rake.
