SB - Fish. I've seen him limp from early position a few times with hands like KK and TT, and he tends to overbet later in the hand. I think I've seen 4-5 overbets from him in the last 4-5 orbits.
I remember he limped with T9, hit second pair on the turn on a board like ATx9, checked back, and then when an Ace came on the river, he overbet. Clueless weirdo.

I hate the way I played the hand, but where would you bet in this hand against an opponent like that? On the flop or the turn?

The flop is usually a check for your range, but I'm betting it with this exact hand.

1: There aren't many turns that make your hand better
2: Many turns that are bad
3: Could you have hoped for a better flop? You could have flopped quads or a boat, but gutshot + overpair is definitely the stronger end of possible flops for 77.
4: Even if he cr (which I would do with most of my continues as SB on this board), you can comfortably call as you block the nuts and are drawing to 2nd nuts in position.

I think the only reason not to raise is because the flop is pretty terrible for your range and better for the SB - but he's a fish and probably won't recognize that so playing perfect GTO is probably not the best route.

The turn:

Bet it, because

1: There aren't many turns that make your hand better, you just found one of them.
2: You still block the nuts and draw to second nuts in position.
3: You have the best hand most of the time, overpair, two pair or set would probably have bet (this would be more certain if you bet flop)

The river: Better late than never but a lot of 8x that might have folded the flop is calling. You missed a ton of value on 4x and heart draws. Which a fishy player from SB might have a lot of.

You don’t need to range check vs sb. I would range check vs a wide and aggressive bb. Bet flop.
