OTOH... guise...
This is a home game. Presumably, where folks are going to have a good time.
I play in a home game that is a colossal shyte-show. The play is atrocious. I pretty much play every single hand dealt to the flop (unless it goes, 5b, 6b,
). I don't win every night, but I win a hell of a lot more then I lose.
But if I locked it down and played my casino A-game, with my only goal to crush and win money... well, I would not be invited back, month after month. And I wouldn't want to go back. I wouldn't want to have to face those guys and tell them that I'm just there to take $$$ off of them.
And even if it wasn't a social event. Some of the "for profit" home games I've been too didn't last very long because the fish eventually figure out who's there to crush them. (Or the fish just run out of $$$.) (It would be great to find a "for profit" home game with an ample supply of fish... I keep looking...
)
IMO, there are times where you have to play badly, and play some trash, and give action (and know you're playing badly and know you're playing trash) to keep the game good. Make some small mistakes preflop, because our opponents make huge mistakes post flop.
We can probably cut OP some slack here. He even submitted in the title, "fold pre".
Usually we cannot ignore mistakes made early in the hand. It is bad policy. I think everyone agrees here... lol... fold pre. But as played OTF, the call is fine.
