Hero: early 20s white guy. New to area. Playing in LA for the first time. No history w/ Villain. Covers Villian
Villian: younger asain gambol type. No fear. Has made some moves but from what I've noticed when he has been sizing large/ barreling large he's had the goods. 1.1k
OTTH:
Villian limps UTG and it folds to me on BTN. We open AsQc to 40.
Folds to him and he calls.
Flop: Ac5s3s
C/ we Cbet to 60.
Calls in rythum.
Turn: 9c
C/ we bet 125
Villian then starts to act confused, stressed/ disapointed and then proceeds to flick in a raise to 300. He immediately grabs his coat and puts it over his face to cover his mouth.
How often is he making moves? How much have you seen on his face in other hands?
If he is only making the occasional move then the disappointment/raise act is probably something that hopes you have AK and won't fold. If he is making a lot then it's too likely he has a flush/straight draw or correctly reads you as having one pair to give up just because he raised.
I would lean fold. His sizing isn't big but sets up a nice size for him to shove river. Without a decent read I don't like calling turn because villain will shove a lot of river no matter what hits and you will be left guessing.
it's pretty weak to fold here, I probably call, we are at the near top of our range. He should be raising his sets bigger on this kind of run out to price out flush draws and he's the gamble type.
You will have to call a river shove a lot, which sucks - so if you don't want to do that, just fold now. He is repping a set of 3's and 5's and a 2 pair type hand.
I like both options. I think I call for this price, but it`s close. He reps A9,99 pretty exclusively after c/c flop, but still.. folding can`t be terrible
There are two things that would stand out to me above the others here:
1. Players at these stakes like to limp call small poket pairs in EP.
2. When a player goes out of his way to justify an agressive action (like oh, I am so confused by your bet and therefore I am re-raising you because your bet doesn't make sense to me - when in reality it is standard AF given the hand play) they have the nuts.
So I'd just be confident in folding here.
Tough spot, but I think the live tell leads me to fold. Looks like A5s/sets.
Only getting value from some FD combos ott, don't see a weaker Ace in his L/C range, and he's folding everything else. I would have checked back, try to create a mistake on his part, and potentially extract otr.
If you are folding here it is entirely because of live reads. I find it hard to interpret live reads through this forum, but I will say that without any live reads folding AQ to an Asian from LA on this wet a board is going to generally be a losing play.
I will say generally an all in or a fold. With your live tell as described, I will fold. If you call the turn, you almost always have to call shove on the river. So, make no sense to just call here, capture some value if u r ahead and fold out some hands that have equity if you have fold equity in this spot. Make no mistake, I'm not advocating a call. I will fold a lot here. But calling is absolutely a more worse play out of the 3.
Yeah. Saw him after the fact. Asked him what he had. Made me cough up 5 dollars but it was worth it to me. Said he would be honest. "Set of tree". Haha ni han
