5/5
~$500 effective

V1 - Middle-aged (55-60) Asian person. Never seen him before, but he seems friendly and talks a lot at the table.

V2 - Middle-aged regular player. Very quiet, never seen any action from him. Plays very tight.

Hero UTG opens to $20 with Q J, CO (V2) calls, BB (V1) calls

Flop ($65) Q 9 5

V1 checks, Hero bets $25, BB (V1) calls, CO (V2) folds

Turn ($115) T

V1 checks, Hero - ?

Is this a really good card for me? I feel like 2, 3, or 4x turn cards would be much better for betting here.

On Turn ($115) 4

My opponent hit nothing, and I'm still ahead of his QT and some draws.

I would bet the Ts and check the 4d. Being able to call check raises with the oesfd is nice.

I'd probably just bet both turns and check the river unless you improve - he's out of the BB so should be wider and you have a 2 street value hand.

Definitely barreling the Ts. At least 2/3 pot. We probably have the best hand, and have a ton of outs to improve if we're behind.

I could go either way on the 4d. V could have some worse Qx or 9x or we could target for value. He can't have QXdd, so there aren't that many combos that were strong enough to call pre, call flop, and now improve to be strong enough to check-raise turn.

Like, does he have 95dd, or JTdd? Some 54s combo? That's just four combos of hands we need to worry about, unless he's floating the flop with 44, or some other set, which seems unlikely. He could also be blasting off with A9dd or A5dd.

I might size down a little on our turn bet with the 4d, to around half pot, maybe $60. If we barrel on the 4d, and get check-raised, it's not the end of the world. We can make a nitty fold, or call and evaluate the river.

Since V1 is our opponent and seems like an unknown, I'm going to treat him as a typical passive live player. His BB call range will be super wide preflop, and his flop call could legit be any piece of the board, be it a pair, gutter, or even a backdoor hand.

Our hand is a must-bet on Ten of spades turn. We want to build the pot so we can make more money when we make a straight/flush. It also improves or gives showdown value to so many hands in V's range, like flopped straight draws w/ Tx, 9x hands like 98/J9/K9. We can call most check-raises too unless they become gigantic, and/or are only straights. Any bet between $50 to $80 seems good

Four of diamonds turn is a slightly different story, but I still mostly like to bet. Getting check-raised is an easy fold against most live opponent pools. Getting value/denial now from worse made hands & draws serves us far better than waiting for a river. $80 turn bet looks good here.

In case I misunderstood this post, and we check T of spades turn (IMO quite a blunder) and then a 4 of diamonds river came and it checked to us. We have a clear bet in this spot too, and I like $70-80

I bet them both for value.

I think the Ts is an easy turn check. We don’t hate most river cards and we don’t love being raised.

4x seems like a bet/fold

Im checking back that turn. Pair + draw is generally better to check than the pair OR the draw since it denies less equity when called, since its sorta ok with any river, and its good to check back turn with strong bluffcatchers at least some anyway.

I think bet/check/bet (or call if he bets) is one of the most underutilized value lines in poker, and i like it here.

I do this a lot online, but I usually just bet live vs. these player types.
