V is an old man. I saw him 3 bet preflop only to fold to the 4 bet. I also saw him betting aggressively with pocket 8's on a QQJ board. He's tight with his preflop action.

V is UTG +2 and makes it $20. I call in the CO with J9. One of the blinds calls.

($65) J62 BB checks, V bets $60, I call, BB Folds

($185) 7 V Bets $160 and I call

($505) 9 V bets $400

I have about $700 behind and V has me covered.

Hero? Should I have folded or raised flop/turn? Please help me and let me know your thoughts, thanks!

Flop just call is good, especially facing the large sizing. I don’t generally raise pair+FD heads up.
Facing large sizing again, Turn call is good.
River seems like a raise to get value from overpairs. You’d have to have specific reads that this sizing is more indicative of a flopped/turned set than overpair in order to make the nitty just call.

Except for pre, line looks ok, now AI.

Pre - unless you have reads on the players behind, fold to a tight range from +2.

A flush would have been perfect, but top two is almost as spicy as well. My thoughts:

Tough to let this go pre but it's 'right' even w some favorable gameflows. AP call flop and turn and rip river because if he is capable of betting 400 w JJ+ then he's also bitchcry/moron-calling a shove w all of it, and we'll gladly do that against his single JJ combo if we get the other 18. If you lose to an underset, oh well, and you can give him credit for not playing how to stack yourself 101 poker.

Would just call river as played - tight villain is set heavy and often capable of folding his 1p hands to raise.

Flop raise is an option but would lean call against that sizing.

Fold or 3 bet pre, call flop, call turn, jam river

If you're worried that he might fold overpairs to jam then just balance it with bluffs, this is mandatory jam

If you're calling preflop to not try to get all the money in when you have top 2 pair on relatively safe runout (lose to 4 combos of JJ/66 really) then its even more of a fold preflop
