Pre I'd go bigger, I'm never limping this hand. $100 should do it. Post vs described villain, can't see anything except a check/jam. You can bet $50 and jam over a raise if you want to be really frisky but check/jam would be my default.

As for 100bb games being higher variance, this is definitely true live. Raise sizes are often double or more what online raise sizes are so you have so many flops where your SPR is 2.5-5 which means you will be getting it in a lot OTF and OTT. Also rake kills most people's win rate once the heater ends.

Seems like an appropriate discussion for the winrates thread. It seems pretty clear to me that shorter games are lower variance, but perhaps someone has decent samples playing in both game types and can share that data.

Shorter games are definitely higher variance. Why would you think it's the opposite?

Only if you're constantly trying to get 3 streets of value and playing large pots with one pair hands.

Genuinely, look at the online db of anyone who has a sufficient sample size of shallow games (ftp ran 20-40bb tables for a while that were super soft and not a total rake trap), normal 100bb games and 100-250bb games.

This shouldn't even be a tough question, your variance is so, so much higher in smaller games.

That's not even close to the correct comparison. Of course 20BB short stacking is super high variance. I short stacked the 5/10 at Full Tilt for a few months and crushed it but yes it was massive variance. I was all in every hand I played.

100BB games arent short games and there shouldn't be massive variance unless you're doing it wrong.

Are you referring to the 2/5 at the Hard Rock in Tampa? I used to live there and played it a bit, and I'm curious why you consider it the worst in the country? Toughest games? Highest variance?

I assume by "worst" you mean the toughest to make tons of money? I agree with that completely. Tons of nits everywhere you look.

I know we got way off topic here but here is a link to a thread I started about the Isle being the toughest room in the U.S.
