In-game, I honestly didn't know. Holding 88, V wasn't likely betting pot with the nuts (89) so it felt more bluffy than value. I figured jamming would knock out any soft 10 and at the same time gain value vs naked flush draws. I also liked the fact I still had several outs to the absolute nuts, plus a possibility of others due to counterfeiting.
Hands we're crushed against are only 66 and 44. That's four total combinations. I didn't know exact odds vs 64 at the time, but knew if that's what V had I would still be pretty live. I know 35s gets there but I just couldn't range V to play this hand. So I figured since the 7 didn't help him and I don't know what cards I'm check-calling river when I don't improve, it was better to get it in now to possibly gain some fold equity.
I know some people here think that two sessions isn't enough to really know an opponent, but I disagree with this statement entirely. I had seen V bluff and lose enough hands to at least know he was capable of having air here. IMO after my flop call, I'm pretty much committed and it's now a question whether I should ch/c, ch/c or get it in now.
