Effective stacks $560
V ($560) directly to my right. Recently stacked him FH vs nut flush.
V in HJ opens $25.
H (covers all) in CO 3! $80 with AdQd
BB ($800~) cold calls
Pot $240~
Flop: Qh4d2s
BB checks
V donks $100
H calls
BB folds
Pot $440
Turn: 7c
V ($380 behind) checks
H ranges V on mostly Qx. Settles on $150 bet. I did not shove for his stack because I didn't want him to hero fold right now, as my line looks so strong. At the time I figured if I bet small now it will be impossible to fold the river with so little behind. Wondering what y'all and solver would do in this spot.
V says, "You have AA or KK?" Then pauses and calls.
Pot $740
River Jd
V verbalizes, "230," pointing to his stack.
H, thinking that V verbalized a bet of $230, insta- "Call."
V - "No, I was just telling you what I have left in my stack."
H - "Oh, I thought you were saying your bet. Are you checking then?"
V - "Yes, check."
H - "Ok, I'm all in. I wasn't angle shooting. I thought you bet that number."
V - "Yea, I believe you. You really do have AA or KK, huh?"
V tank folds. I slide him my cards as we have been friendly with each other and I already stacked him. He looks at them and has an exasperated grin. "I had the same hand...I was gun shy because of our last hand..."
Did I get lucky to not chop the pot? Or did I win because of aggression? I'm pretty sure I would have chopped the pot or just won it right there if I shoved on the turn. This hand felt like I won hitting a 2 outer when he said he folded the same hand. I don't see how he doesn't call it off.
Now that I'm thinking about it, if I did have KK or AA, should I just be shoving the turn? Or play the same way?

Don't shove turn, you want to make him feel the most amount of pain with KQ QJ etc, so geometric is the way. I'd go even smaller, ~125. On this board protection is not valuable so you have no reason to rush getting it in. In practice he might get away on the turn with Qx if you shove. The result is the best example, his fold is quite bad ofc, but you managed to win 150 more than making him nitfold the turn.

I'm not a dealer or floor guy but verbalising $230 is a bet in my book. If not, it's a dirty angle

Good bet on turn imo.
If y'all have been friendly it was prob an innocent mistake, but there are def some angle shooters out there so be careful. Confirm action before you act if you're even slightly unsure.

Flop is a raise more than a call in theory. IRL I just call in position as there’s no draw he’s setting his win price for.
Turn just bet anything really. The most you think he will call.

It’s weird that you are clarifying you didn’t angle when he definitely angled you. Turn you can do whatever, I’d go small vs players I thought were weaker and shove vs guys who love to hero. I would think that gto plays checks and jams only at spr under 1.

No idea if innocent or angle but that should definitely be enforced as a bet. You played the hand fine IMO
