5/10 Check Raise Spot? 5/10 Check Raise Spot?

10-22-2023 , 01:46 AM
1200 effective stacks

Hero with 88 in MP. No reads on villains.

UTG opens to 40
Hero calls
BTN calls

Flop 69Tdd

UTG checks
Hero checks
BTN bets 45
UTG calls
Hero raise to 225

is this a good semi bluff spot? Blockers to the nuts and a lot of two pair combos.

3-way and without reads, it seems a bit ambitious to me.

I admit though that I am not quite sure what the best play is here. In game I probably call, but don't love that either .

With no reads on villains it's overly aggressive. You don't know what BTN's or UTG's ranges are, what sort of range they will have after your raise or what to do on later streets if somebody does call. If BTN is laggy and will throw in the small bet with air after two checks then you should be raising some of the time. If BTN or UTG are very tight and likely have a good hand to bet or call at all then raising is mistake.

Absent any other information I fold flop. It's unlikely you have the best hand after a bet and call. There are not enough ways to improve your hand. A 7 or 8 may be dirty and even if they are not it will be hard to make money from worse hands.

I would not flat this hand pre, especially if this is a raked game. Raked game facing a large open vs UTG with many players left that can squeeze is not where I would want to be flatting this hand, especially when we aren't REALLY deep. I also wouldn't be flatting with 87s either, so I wouldn't try to rep hands I am not going to have. Low frequency 3bet and mainly fold pre.

It isn't really that credible that you are checking a nutted hand after the preflop aggressor checked to you. The other problem is that there are so many hands that are going to continue vs you on this board and possibly even try put in another raise here. You're also going to time ending up with not a lot of fold equity on the turn or river given this is multiway.

Maybe low frequency with a diamond, even better if you have the backdoor suit as well to bluff when certain straights and backdoors come in. But my biggest concern is the preflop range construction. The easiest fix for this would be to play 3bet or fold with range preflop in this position.
