If you think the guy is FOS and you can call getting ~2-1 that's another story. This is equivalent to an overshove whether it's technically an overshove or not.
Your logic doesn't make sense to me. You are getting better than 2 to 1 on a call. This is very important. The villain may or may not think of a 500 dollar bet being a huge bet. That is read dependent. Why don't we call the bet what it is and then determine what the villain is most like thinking about his bet. By ignoring the size of the bet compared to the pot we are making the exact same mistake you say all these fish are making.
