Hey, I don't usually post but am a regular reader in this forum. I'm usually pretty confident in my own self analysis of hands but I played a hand last night that still has me thinking about it.
Villain1 ($200 stack): Recently sat down and got coolered on a big pot. I have him sterotyped as a passive old nit
Villain2 ($450 stack) and Villain3 ($800 stack) have both been playing very loose and have shown all night that they will call anything preflop and call any bet on the flop or turn with straight, flush, and gutshot draws.
Hero is on the button and has the table covered.
Villain1 is UTG and raises to $15 which is a pretty small raise for this type of table. Villain2 and Villain3 both call, I am on the button and call with KsJs. Both blinds complete.
Flop ($90): Kh, 8h, 9s
Checked to UTG who made a suspiciously small bet of $30. Both V2 and V3 called. I elect to call here rather then raise as I am either WAY ahead of V1 or WAY behind him and would like to reevaluate after his turn action. I suspect both V2 and V3 are drawing. Both blinds fold.
Turn ($210): 10s
This card gives me top pair, open ended straight draw and a flush draw. V1 shoved for $155 and is snap called by both V2 and V3. Pot is now $675 and its $155 for me to call. I now know I'm behind V1 but was confused to my line here. V2 and V3 could easily have made a straight and both have many 2 pair combinations. I considered jammimg as V2 has already put in half his stack and would likely commit to calling for his remaining $250 with a drawing hand. My problem here is V3 could have spiked his straight and I would be playing an inflated pot and drawing only to spades.
Even if I spike my straight, I suspect I'd be chopping with either V2 or V3 and I know my hand needs to improve on the river to beat V1. Should I be calling, folding, or shoving the turn? Was my mistake not raising preflop or on the flop?
Let me know what you guys think and thanks in advance for the help
There's no reason to raise here. It's a protected pot and you need to improve your hand to win. Raising can only really accomplish two things and neither is good:
1) V2 and V3 both fold and you win less money when you hit your draws. V1 is all-in so a semi-bluff has no value here.
2) Either V2 or V3 calls and you put additional money in as an underdog.
I think you played it fine and have to call. As far as raising on the flop? Don't think it would accomplish much. From the looks of it Vs are coming along no matter what. As played you get great odds
