2/5 Villain Takes Ridiculous Line... 2/5 Villain Takes Ridiculous Line...

I have been playing at the table for a couple hours, Villain is competent and TAGish, knows what he's doing for the most part, doesn't seem to be out of line, ABC poker. I have $800 and Villain covers. I have been playing ABC TAG poker as well, haven't bluffed and at showdown I have the winning hand 90%+ of the time.

I have 44 UTG, raise to 20 PF. Villain calls in the BB.

Flop J 7 4 rainbow. ($41)

Villain Checks, I bet $25, villain raises $60, I call. ($161)

I'm putting Villain on J10, QJ, KJ, AJ here. I am pretty sure he 3bets JJ+ here PF, and 77 will just be a cooler.

Turn 7. Villain leads $90, I raise $240, Villain calls. ($641)

River J. Villain leads $300. Hero?

Seems like an obvious snap fold. Thoughts?

I am having a hard time finding a hand with a J that Villian takes to the river. I mean you raised UTG, bet the flop, called his raise, and then raised his turn lead bet. Most competent TAGs will fold even AJ against so much aggression.

Could he have tried to trap PF with an overpair like AA and now reads you for also having an overpair like QQ or KK? That's about all I can find that you can beat. I don't see any bluffs he couldhave and why try to bluff after so much aggresion from you?

Otherwise, there are 2 combos of quads which could take this line. I also suppose he could have called in the BB with J7s or 74s thinking its only $15 more (I've seen worse from players I thought were TAGs.) All of these hands turned FH or better, and could call your raise to trap.

It's hard to put him on a hand, but I think I give him the benefit of the doubt and fold the river.

Everything up to the river seems fine. On the river you're playing the board so yes, seems like an obvious snap fold.

We aren't playing the board. We lose if villain has a J or a 7 we beat every other hand. Still looks like a fold though

you repped a boat on the turn, he called, he bet the river large. Fold.

77 or JJ seem fair for his hand and I would lean toward JJ.

i know Villain reps a jack here obviously... but the reason why i posted this is because Villain shows hole cards after I folded. And this is the reason why I'm posting this hand, i already know this is obvious snap fold 95%+ of the time

anyone care to take a guess on Villains hole cards?

He's saying that you played the hand fine but obviously got coolered, so its kinda like you're telling a bad beat story. I think "BBV" means "Brags,Beats, and Variance." Nothing you can do here man....unlucky.

no he didn't have JJ or 77 or J7 or 65

this is why his play confused the hell out of me

now, continue discussion on what villain had

edit: and btw i only consider losing with quads or better a real bad beat

I know what V had! But IMA mod and I deleted OP's results when he first posted. OP don't be so quick to want results. Let discussion take place. You kind of killed it now and have everyone thinking about results when they should still be focusing on the entire hand.... If you have the need to post the results go ahead. I will close the thread afterwards because there will be no purpose to go on.

Spoiler:
V had the other 44 ..... level

well original intent was to show the spoiler and then discuss why would villain play the hand the way he did with what he had, his river bet made no sense, he either had a jack or was bluffing, but why bluff when i had already showed strength on flop and turn? i couldn't imagine a competent TAG player doing something like this, rather i would see a LAGGY villain attempting to rep a jack here

why would Villain play QQ+ like this? i have shown strength each street, what does Villain put me on then? air? i've been TAGGY the whole time i've been playing

Then it's KK+
The fact is they play this way to trap (flawed logic)
They assume you can't believe they can have an overpair and view op as the nuts

Uh okay, so he didn't have a J, a 7, or QQ+... so what did he have?
