I have been at the table 4 hours and have been up and down. Table is loose and has a lot of action. Villain to my immediate right is hard to put on a rainge. He has been pwning me all night. He has been raising some some weird hands pre-flop, he's turned some rags into big hands and forced some folds with big bets. He has $1400 and we are about even.

History - One hand I opened 4x from UTG, he called 3ways to pot, then called 2/3 pot on 2-spade board. Villain donk bet 1/2 pot when spade hit, then slight overbet all in on river. I folded AA face up and felt I should have folded turn. He flashed an ace of spades.

Another hand I called his PFR with Tc9d. I flopped a straight in a 5-way pot on KQJcc board and raised his flop c-bet. Turn brought a 3rd club and he shoved for a PSB and I tank called to see 7c5c and did not get a last club to suck out.

Anyway, in this hand, there is a straddle and I complete from BB with 43. Five to the flop

Flop ($50) A55 checked around

Turn ($50) 2. Villain checks. I bet $30, folds to villain who min-raises to $60. I call.

River ($170) 4 Villain bets $100.

Hero?

I don't believe him, I'd call given the other crap he's been doing. I expect him to have a boat occasionally (22, A5, 54), random air, the same straight, and badly played 5x hands.

I'm a station though vs erratic players. When he min raises and you just call I think he's firing his whole range on the river except Ax hands since he probably thinks you have Ax.

Villian could easily have been planning to c/r flop with 5x. However, it's pretty strange to check the turn with a 5 out of the SB after the flop checks through. This is probably exactly how he would play 22, but I agree with NuklearWinter. You're gonna be good often enough, and seeing what he shows up with here will give you a lot of info on how he approaches the game.

Wax, I think you make a good point that trip 5s would probably bet flop or turn given villain's aggressive image. Also, when he check-raised me with trips before, he was betting much more than the minimum. He had tended to play flush draws passively then bet hard when the scare card hit. So a c/r with a flush draw seems a bit out of his pattern. The line does seem to fit a boat better than the alternatives.

^ no because only better will call you and a 5 can fold easily to a RR...

Agree call >>>> raise. He never calls with worse and may raise with better. Villain had A5 for a flopped 2nd nut boat. I think until I start seeing more villains min-raise bluff I am going to be more wary of small bets than large ones for a while.
