I have A7 on the Btn, all fold to me and I open for $13 (playing 2/5 with 10% rake capped at $15). An aggressive LAG in the SB reraises me to $45 and the BB folds. I know the SB likes to do this with a wide range, so I decide to reraise to $110 (too little?). He tanks for a while then calls. Effective stacks are $600.

Flop ($210) QJ6

Villain checks, I bet $105. Too much, too little, or should I just check back since he's likely to have a piece of the flop?

I don't absolutely hate it, but I'd choose an A blocker with a little more equity than our current holding. I'm checking this flop.

EDIT: I forgot to add, I would go $135 on the 4 bet sizing - what are stacks though?

Pre mega spew

Same for flop. Other than QJx two tone or 1098ccc this is one of the worst flops to cbet

You don't like 4bet bluffing these situations Minatorr? I've been experimenting with it for a few weeks and have been surprised how often these young LAGs will meekly fold preflop or after a 50% flop bet (I'd say about 75% have folded pre and another 75% on the flop.) It also seems to 'tame' their aggression for the rest of the session if they think the crazy guy on their right is likely to 4bet their 3bets

(I agree the flop was probably a check btw, and normally I'd raise a bit bigger preflop.)

I actually 4b pretty wide but I think this is a bad hand to use. If you use A7o you’re just bluffing too much and it’s hard to realize equity with A7o + you cant barrel many boards, and you block parts of his folding range & bluff range holding the 7 (!!). I mean yeah A2o-A5o is kind of spew too but using some of the wheel offsuit aces is somewhat better (usually A4o-A5o)

Also how often is he 3-betting here? If it’s only 10-18% that’s not ridiculous and you should def not be 4b A7o

How often is he 3betting here? With most of these young Asian kids (I'm in Australia btw) it's close to 100% the first time anyone open-raises from the Btn - I'm pretty sure they like to test their opponents out. They do it so often it almost seems like a reflex action - they all seem to have watched the same training videos or something. And since I usually only play sessions of 4-5 hours I don't think its necessarily a great idea to wait multiple orbits until I have the right blockers, especially since most times I'm on the button someone will normally have raised in front of me anyway.

Your 4! is way too small. Fold to the 3! anyway.

pre is fine at some freq but too small
you're airballing flop too much if you cb this. if you bet QQ+, some AK, AT if that's in your range, that's enough
you're not supposed to do that much betting when your opp's range has good equity

It just comes down to what you think the villain's 4 bet calling range is. Given the very loose standard of Australian poker, I don't mind the 4bet defense.

Actually I should mention that I got the idea for the play from Jonathan Little, who's said that he likes to immediately 4bet 3bet-happy LAGs at the beginning of a new session or tourney to stop them from "trying to run over him." In the weeks that I've been experimenting with it my results have been so good that I wonder that I didn't do it previously. I'm pretty sure that doing it also helps me to get paid off more often when I make a big hand later on, as players are less likely to classify me as a tight nit.
