v4 SB($1500): call $40 -LAG player in almost every pot and has been drinking a good amount

Flop: 9dKsQc

sb check
Hero check
v1 check v2 check v3 check

Turn: 9h

SB bets $100
Hero calls $100
v1 fold
v2 raises to $350 all in
v3 folds
SB calls after short tank
Hero ???

I think where I really screwed up was checking the flop. There were a lot of possible straight draws on the board and I think it was a real bad move. My thought process at the time was that someone behind me would bet and I could come over the top with a raise but looking back, I believe I definitely should have lead out. Thoughts?

Why are ou referring to yourself as V1? If you aren't V1, why did you limp/call $40 preflop? Lastly, why do you only have 72 BB's?

I can assure you nobody is mistaking you for a TAG.

OP did you straddle? It would explain the 8x raise at least.

why would you fold top two there? You started the hand with only $360

move back down to 1/2 until you can play for 100 big blinds. Also this is not a big pot for 2/5.

i say shove flop, as it's played to beat everyone, but with that 2 pair a shove is best, you may be behind though

Welcome to the forum, OP. In the future, please don't post results, as it biases responses. I edited them out.

Fold pre. KQo out-of-position and only 72BB deep is not a good hand, even given the chain of callers.

You are right, checking flop was bad, especially given the stack-pot ratio. There is $200 in the pot and you only have $320 back. There is no need to go for a check raise, as any bet commits and with a board this wet you'll get action.

AP, once you call the first turn bet, you can really never fold, so you should make your decision then. There is $300 in the pot when it gets to you and you have less than a PSB back. I just shove it in then, even though I hate that card.

AP, by the time it gets back to you, the pot is about $1K and you only have $260 back. You only need 20% equity to call, but do you ever have it here? You are almost never good, given the action and you only have 4 outs, or a bit over 8%. You can muck about with the LAG's rage and maybe get up to 12% equity, but if the TAG always has a 9 or a straight here, you're never getting better than that.

No offense, OP, but the whole hand was pretty bad. Although he stated it harshly, I agree with Playbig that you're not ready for 2/5.

Agree with fold pre. Worst hand I'll open utg is KQs, KQo I toss into the muck.

Personally I don't hate checking the flop. Someone is going to bet at it most of the time, the only cards that you don't want to see are a 9 or an Ace so not so bad if it checks through, just so happens that the worst turn in the deck just hit.

As described it's so easy for SB to turn over a 9, he could probably have most of the combo's that contain a 9 except for 94 or worse.

V2 you say seems solid, called a raise from...which position? Probably has 109s, J10s in his range here, maybe J10o, could have same hand as well. AK is not in his range, maybe KJ if he's actually bad. I just cant see us beating 2 players with top 2 on this board.

As played I fold here in spite of the pot odds. I think we have to hit a 4 outer to win here.

Appreciate all the responses. I agree Garick, I played the hand pretty poorly pre flop and on the flop but I guess it's a good lesson not to slow play hands like this. I usually always play 1/2 and do pretty well there so I'll stick with that for the time being until I get more experience and build a larger bankroll to be able to play more comfortably at 2/5.
