In an attempt to actually show some numbers here...

You have to call $340 to win $500 so you need ~40% equity. I don't see this being that bad either way given what I think are some reasonable 4-betting ranges on villain.

For people that play in this game, what is a typical 4-betting range?

Case 1:
equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 35.878% 34.87% 01.01% 35224622 1021742.00 { 9c9d }
Hand 1: 64.122% 63.11% 01.01% 63757830 1021742.00 { 99+, AJs+, KQs, AKo }

Case 2:
equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 40.992% 40.79% 00.20% 44705038 216558.00 { 9c9d }
Hand 1: 59.008% 58.81% 00.20% 64449302 216558.00 { JJ+, AJs+, KQs, AQo+ }

Case 3:
equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 47.014% 46.41% 00.61% 97736068 1281402.00 { 9c9d }
Hand 1: 52.986% 52.38% 00.61% 110314520 1281402.00 { 88+, A9s+, KTs+, QTs+, AJo+, KQo }

If you are going to re-raise oop only to fold to a raise you would have been better off to just call and see the flop. I Like the raise but not if you are going to fold everytime you are raised with no read on player, oop, and cannot define his range.

The stack sizes aren't there for a 3-bet. If you had 200-250, you can call the reraise all in, and I like the three bet. I'd call and donkbet any favorable flop (not just a set, I'd count J high or lower boards as donkbet worthy). You're better able to get a read on where you stand vs checking to the raiser (since we have no reads, against a LAG I would check in the dark). But you have to play this in a way that gives you better than 12% to win or you should just fold preflop

Looks like all the points have been covered here, thanks for the thoughts guys.

After I folded, he showed QQ.

With no reads I just call and play a flop. If I was going to 3bet it would be with a somewhat polarized range -- hands I'm comfortable 3bet/calling with and hands I don't mind 3bet/folding with.

99 is a hand I don't think I can profitably 3-bet/call vs. an unknown, but has enough value vs. Villain's opening range (and good stacking potential vs. his 4-betting range) that I don't want to have to fold this hand.

I wouldn't be calling pre only to play for set value, FWIW.

I thought about this a bit more today and I think my case 2 above is the most realistic 4-bet range {JJ+, AJs+, KQs, AQo+} in which case call or fold are about the same.

FWIW, I think that 4-betting range for an unknown live player is WAY too wide, even button vs. blinds.

{QQ+,AK} sounds about right to me (and not always QQ,AK).
