$2/5 game 150bb deep

8 handed

UTG opens to $20
UTG1 hero calls with 9d9s
MP1 calls, mp2 calls, btn calls, SB calls, BB calls.

6 ways

flop Jh9c5d ($125)

UTG bets $40
hero calls
everyone calls

6 ways ($365)

turn 8h

UTG bets $150
hero calls
btn raises all-in $550
UTG tanks for 4 minutes and calls with $100 behind
Hero? we cover

Just to make the math easier for us.
Hero has to call $400 to win $1615 (4:1 pot odds)

BTN range was 99% face up for a straight.
UTG is a decent thinking player, he will gamble with big combo draws and sets. i could be wrong, but I think he will fold all two pair hands.

id raise the flop for value vs UTG and protection vs. the field. the pot is already large and id just like to get it HU vs an overpair now.

it also seems nitty but id fold pre in this spot because i dont like your relative position.

With that many players in the hand and a small cbet I'm raising the flop.

As played I'm jamming

Raise the flop 100%!!!

Well it's a no brainer call getting pot odds, but why did you just call the flop? The nuts are gonna change on any 678TQK which you're just gonna be playing guessing games on most turns and it's unlikely any one is going to raise behind you unless they hit a miracle 55 since you block the only other raising hand of J9 and JJ has you crushed anyways so you're always going broke against that hand.

Only way i'd ever call this flop is if I looked left and someone was counting out raising chips or there was a massive whale punter in the game.

One nice thing about this spot is that you are almost always way ahead of UTG and will be playing a $200 sidepot with him when you re-jam. That gives you an even better price to fill up against BTN's straight.

Sometimes you are going to be dead to 1 out here, but I don't think it's very often, and you are clearly getting the right price regardless.

I would definitely raise the flop, as another poster said lots of nut-changing cards can come and there are a lot of people in the pot.

As played GII.

LOl, OMC. Very profitable call with 22 preflop. 99 has a lot of value here.

UTG1 vs. UTG.

Probably losing call pre. with 22 in most 2-5 games I've played in ... even in deep 1-2 games without whales I've seen people snap call 22 here, and then been shocked they are massively punting when money goes in.
You are calling 4bb pre. and so need to win 40bb when you hit, and be good ... then take into account that you are folding the best hand when you miss a significant amount of the time but you still can't call. Would be mildly impressed if it was a joke based on your username, but I see way too many bad regs. just snap call all pairs.
Does make it easy to mentally label them though.

Saying all that I'd be fine calling 99.

I would call with 22 because it is often going to wind up multiway. Like here is was 6-way. You almost have immediate odds to call. Plus the donks will often pay off big when you hit. Of course, you often fold the best hand when you miss. Sure, if it was a tough game and you were going to often wind up HU against UTG or get squeezed, it would be a bad call with 22.

I'm raising to $200 on the flop, praying everyone behind me folds and UTG comes over the top.

If anyone calls, I'm swearing to myself I'll never play poker again, and not putting another dime into the pot if any straight-completing card comes, unless we boat up, in which case I tell myself I was just kidding and poker is actually a great game to keep playing.
