he would probably 3bet his premiums. I'm not sure what his bluffing range is but he has been drinking for a while. I don't think he fastplays KK here like taht.

i agree that raising flop was best but i didn't think he had much of a bet/calling range. except KQ and AK.

So what? There's $330 in the pot. That's 66 big blinds ... That's a big pot to take down with a flop raise. Yes, you can win a bigger pot later, but be happy to win it there or get called by worse.

taking down a big pot is not sufficient reason to divert from optimal play. he's throwing away his entire bluffing range when i raise when he can continue with them on the turn and river. if he's valuebetting hands I beat, like AK KQ KJ, then i'm probably going to stack off against those too. this hand got interesting because of the turn because suddenly i don't beat much of his value range at all.

Optimal play in a big pot is to play straight forwardly. ie raising the flop. And if you're concerned about optimal play, you're not limping K4s here. Folding > raising >>> limping. And calling the 40 is even worse than limping it the first time.

From someone so concerned about optimal play (game theory optimal?), I'm surprised that you aren't noticing that you aren't deep here. You only have 77 BBs. Don't get FPS with a medium-short stack.

You guys are right about preflop. Straddle pot makes this a clear fold the first and second time around.

J8ss and 34s are way different and make many more nutted hands than k4 as the can hit disguised straights. Apples to oranges.

For the hand: fold pre, raise/ship flop

Bump for a well-responded reverse-implied odds post.

Some good analysis in here to go along with the usual diatribes against preflop shenanigans.
