History: The table is filled with mostly players I know and have played with before. Early in the session I was running poorly, but my luck had turned around. I grinded a $1000 re-buy up to $1900 at which point I doubled up set over set through a loose gambly player. I now cover the table. My image should be pretty good.

Villain 1 BB ($1300)
Age: 40s
Sex: M
Ethnicity: Asian
Play style: TAG
Relevant history: He raised 2 limpers to $45 and the SB called, I 3bet to $185 from the BB with Ah5h, he folded and I ended up getting it in with the SB for $1100 a piece after the SB flatted and then over bet shoved the flop on a Ac6h4c board. I tank called, we ran it twice, he hit his flush draw both times. Villain saw my hand.
Comments: I have played with this guy before a few times. The main session that I remember with him I was sitting to his left and picked up a few good hands against him. He made the correct play in every pot that we played which leads me to believe that he is pretty good. Usually he played pretty snug, but this session he has opened a few non-premium hands (A10o after a few limpers from MP).

Hero (~$3700) is dealt: JJ

Pre-flop:
Hero raises to $40, everyone folds to Villain in the BB who calls.

Although this is not what I expected to happen at this table since almost all raises were getting multiple callers, I am very pleased with the result.

Flop ($80): 336
Villain checks, Hero bets $50, Villain calls.

Turn ($180): 2
Villain bets $130, Hero calls.

River ($440): 5
Villain bets $325, Hero...?

From the flop, my plan was to make a standard looking cbet which I would make with my entire range on this flop and hope he floats/has something. I was then going to check the turn in hopes of repping A high or whatever in order to induce a river value bet/bluff from Villain depending on his holding. I did not expect him donk the turn. I really think I have the best hand OTT and believe that Villain is just betting to get my to fold all the unpaired high cards in my range. Once I flat the turn and he leads the river for such a big bet I am now pretty confused... Thoughts?

shrug call imo.

Raising turn is an option, but I think you're WA/WB and you need him to be calling with 44+ to make it good. If you think he's doing that, then go ahead.

I'm folding. He has 3+ and doesn't think you can fold an overpair on this board

Agree, call turn is fine but I am folding this river, don't see him firing twice without a hand that beats you.

There aren't too many players in the live setting that take this line with hands that beat you. I think you are good 40% of the time and need to call. If you lost, I would generally assume its to 44 or something that played poorly on the turn and got lucky.

Yeah, he usually plays pretty tight, but today I think he was on tilt or something.

I think he was (semi?) bluffing the turn and got lucky on the river. His line doesn't make any sense except for possibly 22 and I think he would have checked 56. You say he's competent, but I just don't see how playing a gut shot in this manner is ever profitable - unless of course he gets lucky, as he sadly did here. I think you played it fine. I'm sure most of would tank on the river but likely end up doing the same thing and paying him off. I'm hoping he stuck around for you to get your $$$ playing this way.

My bad. The thread wasn't getting many responses and then Jason hit the nail on the head, so I just posted em.
