Just looking for some feedback. So this hand comes up in a 2/5 nl game with a mandatory 10 straddle. I am the button with 5 limpers posting the 10 dollar straddle. I have aj on the botton and raise to 45, all 5 players call and see a flop. The flop is kq9 rainbow. They all check to me and i decide not to c-bet it and check behind. Turn card is 10. Obv i have the nuts now and everyone checks to me again. I decided to check here as well to act like i have a weak hand now like 88 or some other medium type pocket pair. river blanks. first person to act bets out 45 dollars into a pot worth over 200 dollars, everyone folds to me. Obv i have the nuts and am going to raise here. I raise an extra 125 on top of his 45. he hums and haws asks if i have aj. he folds his hand upright and shows that he has 99 for a set. i muck my hand and take down the pot. wtf is going on here? he plays a set like that and than folds? no flush possible or anything. i have 2 questions.

question #1: how would you play the set? would you hope i c-bet it and check raise me or do you lead out into that pot and try to take it down there? be mindful that the flop was kq9 so j10 flops the nuts but that it was an overall rainbow flop.

question #2: after re-reading what i typed i see that there was a 4 card straight on the board on the turn so i do understand his fold on the river with my bet but what is up with him playing a set like that? was he playing way to passive and tight? thoughts please.

KQT9 isnt really a "4 card straight" since there is a gap.

As bad as you think he played his set, you played 100 times worse. You not betting the turn is horrible. You missed a ton of value from sets, any J etc...

Come to think of it, I bet I just got trolled...

Bet turn every time. Check river if he flats turn because he bets Jx in which case you check raise and get his bet plus a possible extra bet whereas he would just flat you (possibly even fold) if you bet turn and bet river. I doubt he calls a river bet if you bet turn with a set anyways, so you're not leaking value there. But bet turn every time.

I definately should have bet the turn for value there, I completely agree. My biggest question still is if the roles were reversed and I had the set of 9's should I bet out on the flop or go for the check raise? Thanks for the feedback.

You can't check raise this flop against more than one opponent with bottom set, especially not 5. Headsup, yeah maybe.

I had the stone cold nuts and what the other guy is saying is check raise if he has a JACK, thats one jack not ace jack. I had ace jack. Please read the thread before making dumb comments. thank you for the people who were making productive comments. I greatly appreciate it.

Assuming this isn't a level thread, you should start by asking yourself what you hoped to achieve with your $45 bet preflop.
