Villain here is mdv85x, a 17/14ish TAG who I dont have a ton of hands on but seems pretty good. He just sat down to make it 3 handed no more than 10 hands ago so no noteworthy hands or crazy history between us.

Like yourself I don't have a ton of hands or any real history with this guy but he doesn't seem like the type that would check/call this flop with a big hand. And, while I know you don't always have to call the river once you call the turn, I think you do in this spot...surely he's shoving any river after that turn c/r? Anyway, I would call here...I think he takes this line on the turn with a pretty wide range simply b/c its three handed and the board is scary and I think the river shove is coming with pretty much all of that range.

I think this is probably a fold but we both know that I never fold here and neither do you.

I just dont see how his value range is worse than AK here ever.

yeah cant see a set here like ever, maybe a flush sometimes but it wud hv to be the Q hi flush for him to slow play till turn, after your smallish flop bet he may have decided to try and take you off your hand, i call here i don't totally love it but i def expect to have the best hand a lot.

Me too. CR turn + lead river from a solid player means AK no good like always.

I am definitely not going to win any "most solid player" awards but I take this line as a bluff on scary boards occasionally. Usually in spots where I have a mediocre hand hoping for a cheap showdown and then change my mind and turn it into a bluff when it doesn't appear the cheap showdown is coming.

Unless, of course, you know who I am...then its always the nuts!!

that and also theres pretty much no way he has a set because i doubt he would bet nearly pot on the river for value with any hand worse than a flush

villains line can easily be a small flush or set. Waiting for a safe turn to c/r can ensure that you get your money in as a bigger favorite as well as looking super fishy and possibly inducing a light stack off especially when 3 handed. Villains line also wouldn't be the worse in the world if he had JTd.

FWIW I don't fold, but my image is fairly loose in the NL400 game and I float and call a lot of turns only to fold the river so this probably wouldn't be one of them. If you have a fairly tight/nitty image this very well could be a fold.

oh and anyone who says you can't profitably shove a set on this river after taking that line is a total nit.

why? if I had a strong made hand and took that extremely weird line I would be shoving the river for value every time with any set or flush. I don't think two pair hands are cr'ing the turn for value much so I don't really think that's a significant portion of his range.

so I don't think he's going bet half pot and leave $100 behind with any part of his value range. If you are going to shove your bluffs here then you should be shoving your value hands as well.
