Villain here is the goukx, 14/11ish TAG whos ok nothing special imo. Weve had some history in the past but i havent played with him in a while until this sess. We play a hand of interest early on where I raise 44 from CO, he calls from BB. Flop 9x9s8s, he donks, I raise, he 3 bets, I shove and he folds. I dunno if he just likes going after me or what but we were 3 betting back and forth a lot after that hand.

On to the hand in question

$450 eff stacks

Preflop: Folds to me in CO I raise 86s, villain calls in SB

Flop ($28) J 9 8

He c/cs my $20 bet

Turn ($68) J 9 8 A

He c/cs $52

River ($172) J 9 8 A 6

He checks, I bet $120, he c/r arrrr in

like $250 to me

seems like a fairly easy fold to me

I guess it depends on how badly you've been 3betting him. :-). Looks close, but I'm not sure if he bluff shoves enough to make it worth a call.

Curious. What hand did you put him on the turn?

kind of weird. i have trouble believing he wouldnt raise good hands on the turn. i probably call and expect to be good just around the right % of the time necessary given pot odds.

edit: given villains descrip anyways

Meh, I don't really believe him. I prolly call and get shown 5s7s.

I think the turn is almost as interesting as the river. I wonder if you are getting value from 10x and spades. Most pairs are straight draws so he is not laying those down. that's the thing with GM, I think most of his aggression is somewhat cloudy so it's tough to play him. If Guok was going to bluff raise, the Ace would have been the card to do it on. He waited til the 6. so that leaves three scenarios

1) 75 spades, maybe flopped spade straights, A6 spades (45%)
2) Some complicated slow play with set (10%)
3) Tilt bluff raise (45%)

Looks like a snaparoo.

I think this hand was pretty interesting too, but it went down a little bit different than described here.

No problem. I'm 95% sure I play the hand much differently if the flop is 89J as compared to 69J, so figured it was worthwhile to edit.

Yeah, with the first board, no way he is slowplaying... You are beaten by 75ss and As6s ==> snap call.

The second one, QT got there, 75ss and A8ss too, and he can slowplay a little more ==> snap call, because I am a station

Yes, this changes some possible opponent hands. More real hands on the river and not fake tilty ones. I still think the river is worth pondering and if I have a large sample on opponent and high river checkraise (GM/whitewhale), I snap this river. It's definitely a fold versus most nitty regs.

Conclusion. what is interesting is that the better the opponent, the easier the call. However, up to only a certain point. The best opponents know that the bluffing spot was the turn cuz more credible reps, and thus will show up with 89,J8,A8s,Q10 every single time on the river. Interesting hand for us mediocre $2-$4 NL players. If my style was 16/13/5 I would snap this river versus GM and the Guok, and I fold this versus too eazy and giggy. All hail giggy and eazy.
