1/3 nine-handed. Lag villian has table covered with ~$1K-2K but claims he's stuck, has shown propensity to push people around. My image is pretty tight aggressive, playing with ~$450 after buying in $200; but I've taken down some hands with aggression recently, so looking for villian or others to play back.

In a very recent hand heads up with villian I raised AKs preflop, bricked and cbet flop then checked AKs on turn/river. He checked back twice, then we talked about why didn't he bet river when so aggro elsewhere, I said I would have snapped river, why didn't he bet?

I pick up AJo with two red cards from small blind.

Villian opens $15 from the hijack. Short-stack ($150) cutoff calls, button folds. I raise $45 (?), villian and cutoff call. Pot ~$150.

Flop TsTcQs. I cbet $45. Villian calls, cutoff folds. Pot ~$250.

Turn Ks. I have broadway, but the flush and various boats get there. I bet $60. Villian checks his cards then shoves, $350 effective.

I tank, mention previous hand. Villian takes out his earphone to reply and fiddles with it nonchalantly.

Checking his cards for flush draw and the nonchalant fiddling both seem weak, but his shove looks like bluff or boat (or aggressive flush which I also can't beat), and I don't block anything. He's lag, but I haven't seen him bet for this size all night.

I crying fold. Villian shows 99 bluff. Was that a call?

Your 3b is way too small. Oop and with a caller in between you want to 75-100.

Your flop downbet is ok, I probably check fold by maybe that’s too weak. I expect to get floated a ton though so you’re not accomplishing a lot.

Turn bet I’d size up a little but 60 is ok. As played vs described villain with recent history and live tells I find a call. Don’t include results in your hand history.

I'm not 3betting AJo here given the dynamics listed. there will be better spots and better hands.

There are players where I'd think about folding this at 1/3 but this isn't one of them.

Against an aggressive player like that why are you raising marginal hands? Let's rewind to how this could have gone.

You just fold your marginal hand.

You call with your marginal hand. Pot is $40.

You check, villain bets $30, you call.

Villain then either raises and you raise over him or villain checks. You win $100 pot or

Villain bets $120 on the river, you call and maybe lose to a flush or win a medium sized pot.

This is a slam dunk 3b vs this villain.

how so? i don't think so and say its a pretty easy fold. i even checked some quick resources and i'm getting confirmation there its a fold.

maybe if we were to be heads up and we want to play a big pot with a postflop edge but sometimes CO will just say **** it and shove cause he's alreayd put money in and again i don't think our hand really has tons of equity. so many other hands i'd rather 3bet here. AJs totally different story. AJo won't play well enough often.

AJ is ahead of a lag opening range. It’s probably ahead of most peoples HJ range. We have initiative and can leverage shorty if he sticks around. If he 4b we have an easy fold.

pf either bet $75 or call

flop ok. i might even bet smaller. i dont think you're ever getting raised on this flop so you might as well set your own price. i dont think ive ever seen a flop raise on a paired board at 1/3 unless someone is super short stacked.

on the turn, i dont think this guy is smart enough to check his cards to pretend to check for a spade when he actually has the goods. if he checks his cards he's checking for a spade.

so dont fold.
