1/3 Ameristar St Louis

Hero ($375) Young 20s TAG, image is pretty solid 3 hours into play

V ($200) Young 20s limp caller who keeps calling people down and has dusted off a couple buy ins, VIP someone around 85%

Pre: V limps cutoff, H on BU raises to $15 (maybe should have done $20) w/ JJ, folds back to V who calls

Flop($34): 234 V checks, H bets $20, V calls

Turn ($74): 234K V checks, H checks

River($74): 234K5 V checks, H bets $40, V check min raise to $80

Hero??

I ended up calling simply because of who this guy is and I was fairly convinced that I was beat but the odds were too good for me.

Spoiler:
He showed AdKd and when I called he goes "dont tell me you have a club". I am just not sure how often I am good here or if this is a call but given the odds I couldnt fold. I am supposed to check the river to avoid this???

Versus a passive station I think this bet is ok though kind of thin. The min raise sucks but I'm calling as his line even for a passive player is difficult to have for Ac and you got a great price.

The other reasons I call in spots like these are for protection in future hands as well as the information gained from this odd line. I don't want people to think they can just min raise me and I will fold. I prefer an image of that as a calling station.

Against this limp/caller, I make it $20-$25 preflop because we know he's likely going to call and we can then setup a trivial stackoff postflop with an overpair. As played the SPR is ~5.5 which isn't quite as comfortable a stackoff spot as ~4 would be; get more in preflop to punish his limp/calling habits more.

With such a drawy board and against a calling station, I would probably feel committed on this flop (especially since there are some worse hands that he could feel are best) and aim to get it in on two streets. This will require a flop overbet of like $50+ (noting he's never folding a draw so just go super big here).

As played one of the main draws got there on the turn, it's going to be quite difficult to eke out 2 more streets versus a worse pair, and we might have our Jc as an out, so I also check back (especially since it looks like we didn't work towards commitment on the flop).

If I'm betting the river, it's to fold to a raise. From what we've seen of this guy so far, he's simply been passively calling off his stack, not bluffing it off. I just don't think enough people bluff/minraise here since there is so good a chance that we're the ones holding the nuts. From the spoiler, it looks like this guy doesn't know what is going on (his TPTK has massive showdown value, he should not be turning this into a bluff), so against these players you have to be very careful and should sometimes aim to check back to avoid these stupid spots.
