1/3 88 UTG, awkward spot post 1/3 88 UTG, awkward spot post

V1 (290) - Unknown 30's WG. Only been at table for 1.5 orbits. Seems like a rec, but not clueless. Haven't seen anything other than a couple limps/fold flop.

V2 (250) - Older WG. Nitty, fit or fold post.

Hero (450)

Hero raises to 12 UTG with 8c8h. V1 calls UTG+1. V2 calls from CO. Others fold.

Flop (35) 7h 9c Tc. Hero bets 20, V1 calls, V2 folds. (Looking back I think a check may be better here OOP vs two opponents.)

Turn (74) 2c brings the frontdoor flush. Hero checks, V1 bets 30, Hero calls.

River (134) Js. Hero bets 35. (I don't block bet a lot vs regs, but this guy seemed like a rec.) V1 says "Raise you 50 more" and pushes out 85. Hero?

Appreciate input on all streets.

I would say this man has the King of Clubs, and probably a Q or another club to go with it, but I guess you have to call.

I would have x the flop. I don’t know why you are leading river but as played I am calling.

I would mostly limp preflop (not a fan of building big pots OOP with mediocre hands where we'll hate most run outs).

I'm either/or on the flop. I don't mind betting as we get to be the ones setting the price.

Kinda meh spot on the turn (again one of the reasons I don't like building big pots preflop OOP). We might be drawing dead, or we might be doing fine and he's just betting a mediocre hand cuz we checked to him.

I actually don't mind our bet on the river. A lot of mediocre hands (two pairs / sets) will check back this board but pay off a small bet, and we get to set our showdown price. I fold to the raise as no one is raising worse here (the only question being whether this guy is capable of bluff/raising, another reason not to build a pot preflop OOP).

If your going to raise this utg go bigger to 18$-20$. Flop bets fine. Bet/fold turn. AP river I'd a bet/fold.

Pre is meh but w.e., all 3 options are pretty meh. Dont really like folding, limping turns our hand face up, and raising w/ 8 ppl behind is pretty meh where we have to give up on a lot of boards. Imo raising more or less = folding, >> limping

Flop is std x/c

Turn is std.

Otr is a x, never donk leading. Ap i call

Given responses were all over the board, seems I was correct about it being a tricky spot. FWIW, I folded to the river raise. He gave us great odds, but we double block 8s, and I just couldn't see him raising with a worst hand.

He’s never putting you on 8x opening UTG. Your hand looks like AT-AA so he can and should be raising any two pair for value. He can also be turning hands like QJ/ATx into a bluff since your calling range here is apparently only flushes.

FWIW - the hand was only tricky because you made it so.

Do you play with a lot of recs that think that deeply tho? I know I don't in my player pool. That was a key read for me, and I mentioned it influenced how I played the hand.
