Hero: $150 sitting in UTG+1 (due to the straddler). Have played fairly tight so far, being quite card dead. Last three orbits I had played in two pots. One was a triple barrel semi-bluff and the other was a simple takedown after a PFR in UTG.

Villain: $110, sitting in SB. He just recently sat down. Seem him limp a couple hands and call a couple raises PF, but overly not aggressive at all.

Straddle to $4, UTG calls $4, Hero (dealt AcKs) raises to $20, folds all the way to SB Villain who calls $20, BB straddler and UTG all fold.

Flop: 8 8 2 rainbow

Villain shoves for $90, hero tanks and ?????

This seems really out of place for him. I doubt any pair smaller than 8s make any play resembling this. I don't think a 2x would have called and if so, this play makes no sense. If he has AA or KK, maybe even QQ, wouldn't he have just shoved PF? Or at the very least, CRAI OTF? So that leads me to 99, TT, JJ and bluffs.

Fold. SB's hand has to be pretty strong to call the $20 with $110 behind...probably 99-QQ looking for a safe flop.

Easy fold. Huge bet $90 into ~$50? No reason to call here. His PF range has to be fairly strong, agree with wj94.

Easy over pair 99-JJ.. Sometimes I call drawing live. Possible 44-77 as well.
Totally your call but right now your behind..
You want gambol ????

Well, I mean this was the line I was thinking. The flop is perhaps the best flop for us to not hit a pair or better. The shove seems a bit fishy, but I do believe he has to at least be a somewhat thinking player to shove high cards into that board. And I didn't really think that of him. While I do doubt he does this with a 44 or 55, I do think 99-JJ does this, maybe even QQ. But it seems like such a bad play that it makes me scratch my head a little bit. If I'm thinking right, I'm only going to call that bet with JJ+ (maybe TT) or any hand that beats his hand. I'm going to throw away lower pairs and anything that whiffs to that bet, so why not let me do a standard cbet instead and then shove? It seems like just an awful play and really made me think for a little bit.

Regardless of how bad the shuv is if he has a over-pr, this is a high variance spot and there are better spots to make the monies. Sure there are times he flips over two overs, but conceivably less than he flips over 99-QQ(discounting AA or KK). I prefer to be the shuv 'r with overs here not the caller.
