Had a hand that was full of mistakes both sides but I think I played it correctly based on the information but would like people's thoughts. I'm coming back to poker after many years out and I realized the whole game has changed.

Villain is better is strong hands, standard player who is playing by the book.

Hands in spoiler

Spoiler:

Hero has Tc9d
Villain has ATo

villain UTG+1
Hero Btn

Villain raises 3.5BB
Two callers to hero
Hero calls
SB and BB call

His range Pre Flop I'm thinking ATo+ 88+ KJo+ I think he doesn't change his raise regardless if it's suited or not so his suited and off suites are raised the same.

Flop
K J 6 rainbow

Checks all round to me and I check wanting to peel the next card, a lot in the pot and villains range. With villain checking, I'm ruling out KQ, AK, which leaves all other pocket pair combos, I think sometimes he checks with his big sets.

Turn is a Q spade giving a flush draw and me the bottom end of the straight.

Checks to villain who puts just over a pot bet with 30bb into a 21BB pot.

I'm now reducing his range to KK, QQ, JJ, QJ, AT.

I flat call and we are heads up.

River comes a brick (maybe a 5 missed flush).

Villain bets 7.5BB

Here, I'm sensing real weakness, I now put him on JJ, QQ, QJ. I rule out AT due to the weak bet.

I shove with 80BB into a 88.5BB pot.

Spoiler:

Villain mistakes there to be a flush on the river, realized and calls with his AT. Based on this, I read his play correctly, but because he made a mistake in reading the community cards, it forced a good read turning bad

Looking for feedback here as like I said, should I be folding pre with T9o? Seems like everythings changed in poker in the last 8 years and I'm now catching up.

Some points to some resources to "catch up on lost time" would be appreciated

Thanks

Look up some recent preflop charts.

T9s is a low freq. call on BTN from EP open, with robots. T9o just makes it into BTN open ranges (and not into CO's).

After you get to flop I guess I just fire at it, you only have 4 outs to anything so checking doesn't help much ... and betting with the gutter is better than firing with like 87s which needs runner runner.

After turn w/e ... 1.5x pot turn bet is pretty strong, like QJ/JJ is probably not in it and some people it's just the nuts. Weight that against river, I doubt KK/QQ bets that size often. Also there's 12 combos of AT, even with your blocker, and 3 of KK and 3 of QQ.
But maybe V is just playing weird, and we have 2nd nuts. I call and doubt raise is good against most.

Thanks all, appreciate it. I actually did a day on pre flop position charts and tried to apply them in a game today and found myself in less "dodgy spots". I also found myself limping about 5 or 6 times in the 3 hour session and only in BB or SB.

I was up and found to be more stable, although, I now need to work on bet sizing.

Looking forward to the long journey I have to make up my last participation which was roughly 2012!
