I get dealt AJo on the button. It gets folded to me, I raise, and get min 3bet from the small blind. Villain sat down maybe 30 min ago. He's raised pretty frequently preflop but I haven't seen him showdown yet. This is his first 3bet. I call. Flop comes A74, two clubs. He bets out $15 (the same amount he 3bet to) and I call. Turn comes a blank. He bets $35 into a pot of $60 or so. He has just over $100 left. Hero?

My thinking: I've only been min 3bet twice so far at 1/2 nl live. First time was AA. Second time was KK. When he bets the 3bet amount as his cbet, I'm thinking weakness - KK. With a flush draw out, TP would bet at least 2/3 pot. I think KK is most likely, followed by AA trying to trap, and lastly AK/AQ. The turn bet is a more standard amount but still a little on the small side. I don't like calling because I was worried he could just jam any non club river. He was aggressive but I honestly don't know if he's capable of 3bet bluffing in that spot or if he would just simply shut down. I decide he has QQ or KK based on the 3bet pf and bet-sizing so I shove. He tanks and ends up calling with AQo. Whoops.

What are your guys' experiences against min 3bets preflop? Is it QQ-AA + AK? Ever something else? After talking with a friend, he suggested I raise the flop. I also like that idea because it lets me know immediately if I'm good or not. If he calls/raises, I shut down. If he folds, ya buddy.

Detailed thoughts please....

In the games I play in a min 3 bet PF is usually a big hand, although in a button vs blind situation this could be different i guess.

I was playing in a 5/5 game recently when UTG+1 opened for 20, UTG+2 made it 35 and it was folded back to UTG+1 who called. Flop was 2 2 4 and UTG+1 check/folded KK for $35 face up!! UTG+2 showed him the AA! i wasn't familiar with any of the players so either UTG+2 had the world's nittiest rep or min 3bet's are known to be signs of major strength.

EDIT:sooo, i guess that in a vacuum you can fold to the turn bet but yes i does feel incredibly weak.

Usually think qq plus in this spot, I but you have a blocker in this spot guy smallish turn bet here is prolly kk, if it ace ace well then your screwed. I don't like the call pre maybe try a 4bet to see if you can run him over or just muck it, flopping the nut str8 not gonna happen that often.

Fold pre. Call flop. Fold turn.

LLSNL players ain't leading into an A high board with JJ-KK twice, and they also don't 3bet AT or worse. You are beating 0 hands from his range ott.

Thank you for the replies. Based on your replies and some more thinking, it just isn't worth it to call preflop. It pains me because I'm guaranteed heads up in position, getting 3-1 on a call with a pretty decent hand. However, no matter what the price, AJo vs villain's range is terrible. And flopping an A just gets me into a gross spot like this. Overall not worth it. Fold and move on.
