eff stacks
250

history
villain is an aggro donk, he stacks off light all the time, he buyins short and doubled up then bust then repeat, every now and then he shows up with strong hands, mostly hands like tpnk and somehow hit the river, he likes to raise/bet instead of calling therefore i labeled him as aggro donk
hero is tight aggro

PF
villain straddles to 5$
hero is MP with KK raises to 17$
all folds
villain obviously call - his pf range is ATC

Flop ($37)
345
villain checks
hero checks - plan here was if i bet and get check/raised with his air
and i call or shove, villain will realize i have a hand
villain wont put anymore money in unless he improves and my hand becomes somewhat face up
so i decided to let villain bet turn so i can raise and rep my ak type hand

Turn ($37)
J
villain checks again
Hero bets 25$
villain quickly grabs his chips, and raises to 80
Hero tank shove

How's my line? flop check bad/good?
standard?

20 pre standard, if villain will defend his straddle with ATC then amp it up to 25+

OTF check is FPS, any A 2 6 7 = 12 obvious scare cards, flush cards not so much and board pairing could mean trouble as well as the fact that we get stacked if villain hits some 2p.

C-betting this flop is likely to look a lot weaker than checking since we rarely check overcards here. Also betting might make villain want to fast play any pair he got on the flop since he would put you on overcards and the board is so drawy, meaning you could very easily get it in otf if villain has any pair or draw at all. Also its hard to get stacks in if we miss a bet here.

As played you got what you wanted on the turn so at the very least call but shoving is fine with the Kc redraw, if the villain plays as you described there are a lot of pair+oesd / naked draws in his range which we crush and our hand is too underrepped to fold.

Yeah, I c-bet a lot of these types of flops, so there's no reason to not bet here either. Prolly bet $30 or so.

I still like the cbeting line if he's agro, he may raise. Was your plan to just straight check/call, call, call everything and hope he hangs himself and he doesn't get there?

As played, I keep with your original plan and flat turn.

OK. So why does this logic not hold here?

You changed how you perceived the hand going between the flop and turn. Not a good idea.

I think the flop hits ATC range well enough that an aggro villain will call or perhaps c/r you. Any pair or even a 6 or a 2 is going to be calling or perhaps raising you (since he is aggro). Also, the board is wet enough that an aggro villain may try to make a play and rep something.

Lastly, good chance villain calls if he thinks your cbet is just the standard "I have over cards, hope to take it down with a cbet" kinda bet.

So yeah, put me in the cbet crowd as well.

As played, checking flop isn't terrible against this sort of villain. I understand the logic. There are some villains that if you show weakness they will take it as a sign to try to push you out and be more aggressive on later streets.

come turn, I like the line. Looks like A or K

Villain may have J + or just an A. Hopefully he didn't luck box a flush or 2pair since you obviously can't lay down here. As played, I would have shoved as well.

Lastly, since its a straddle, you should have been able to make it $20-$25.
