the setting: 3:30 a.m. in beautiful Chester, PA. The creatures of the night have all filed into the poker room, and im sitting at a very interesting table.

reads: table has been pretty loosey goosey lots of raising preflop but passive post.

the old guy has been tight, he'll splash around preflop but usually has the goods postflop.

2 limps to me on the button, i limp with J5s (lots of 150bb+ stacks)

flop A 2 5 rainbow. pot ($10)

checks to Hero, i lead out for $10 thinking my 5's are likely good and i wanna protect versus straight draws.

EVERYONE CALLS.

turn is 5c putting a club draw out there. pot ($50)

UTG (old guy) leads out for $30 and a short stacker ($90 left) calls the $30. I decide to bump it to $90 total.... UTG INSTA SHOVES for $150 more. short stacker calls off the rest.

Hero is basically pot committed here right? the guy is so tight though, im certain hes not doing this with Ax, he could have weaker 5x hands or have me crushed with a straight or full house.

also, what are you thoughts on my turn raise, is that standard? and is there ever a time where we can fold trips here.

thanks.

Eesh. I call, but I'm a donk. We crush so many 5x hands here that I can't lay this down, even versus a straight forward opponent. Just make sure you fill up on the river to be sure.

Fold pre. The fact that the stacks are 150bb+ makes this worse for me as j5s does not draw to th nuts besides wierd full house combinations and four of a kinds. Drawing to a jack high flush this deep can also lead to getting stacked by th Q-A high flushes, and when the happents you will lose a sh**load

gots to fold pre... OTF check. You are not protecting nathin on that flop versus a group of players who likes to see flops.

I also vote for folding preflop. J5s just doesn't make that good hands that often. I'd fold J5s even if everyone limped.

Ok, but let's say that I was overtaken by an alien and limped pre. I check behind on the flop and see if I hit a J or 5.

As played, I think you're repping an A more than 34 or a 5, so I call and close my eyes. Your opponents will show up with flush draws and two pair a lot.

Call, live with result. The guy limped UTG, it's tough for him to have a bigger 5 or 43.

i called, he had 53.

river was an Ace for a chop lol.

short stacker insta mucks, i have no clue what the hell he was doing.

as for calling pre, i was getting dealt nothing all night so i guess i just got bored and decided to see a flop with a bad hand. id usually fold this as well preflop.

Meh, i dont mind playing that hand so much. I'm 99% of the time folding though, its sort of pointless, i guess if i did play i'd be more likely to raise in this spot.

As played, I check flop here too, no need to bloat pot. As was already said, there's nothing to protect. Even if 5's are good you're not really getting much fold equity at 1/2.

i dont know if you're committed because i dont know your stack or the villain's stacks besides the fact that many players at the table have 150+BBs, but are they all in this hand? Its less likely UTG if he is as tight as you say is limping UTG w/ 34.

This is pretty much wa/wb to me. I'm probably putting my money in against "tight" UTG and hope he doesnt have 22 or A5. I dont know enough about him besides the tight comment to determine how light he shoves in this spot. You limped on button so he has to assume you might have a 5 in your range. Whats your table image though?

I play 200NL at Harrahs on a regular basis. The game is terribad. I happily call that. If someone has 22, 34s, Q5, K5, or A5 then so be it. I think he shows up with a worse 5 the majority of times.
