Villian is mid position and likes opening to $12 - have seen him check raise as a bluff and try and value bet thin. Seems a little spewy as he tried to check raise bluff the flop and gave up on the turn and river when he got called down by a weak top pair. He has around $300

Hero has $250 and has not played a pot with villain yet and has pretty much folded for the past 3 - 4 orbits.

Hero has A5ss on the SB

Villain opens to $8 - 1 caller - Hero 3bets to $30 villain tank calls - other player folds. I 3bet because I haven't 3bet yet - i had an A blocker and my hand should be pretty easy to play. I also thought I could get a fold pre since he opens to $12 - $15 normally and this time he only opened to $8. I also wanted to play my hand but thought my hand was too weak to call.

Flop is 559

Hero bets $30
Villain raises to $85
Hero?

I am pretty sure if I just call here - he will give up on turn and river if he has nothing so i'm going to assume jam is going to be the best play just incase a stupid card comes on the turn to ruin any further action incase he does have a hand like TT or JJ but I wasn't 100% sure.

I did end up jamming but not sure if I get too many folds by doing so. I was also OOP so that influenced me to jam.

Against the described Villain, the 3b needs to be a bit larger. He can talk himself into calling $22 more with lots of decent but not premium hands, and he's capable of aggression (and spew) post, so we're not going to take down the pot with a cbet as often as we would against straightforward fit-or-fold types.

I'm only flatting the flop raise if I think his range has a ton of bluffs (and that he's capable of following through by jamming ott, which he may not be). Against most players, jamming will get us plenty of value from TT-QQ, 9x, diamonds, even 5x if there are some in their range.

Any losing SDV hand in his range (apart from 5x) is going to hate a ton of possible turns, making it harder to get stacks in if we flat. We also don't want the turn to check through. If V's range is mostly bluffs or just button-clicking with a marginal hand, and he's going to give up with them if called, we might as well jam to prevent draws from playing perfectly and to fold out any dead equity, even if we don't expect to get called very often.

Perfect. He's gonna fold a lot, but sometimes he'll think this is a resteal and call light.

Yeah, shoving is right. He wouldn't have raised a real hand (JJ or a FD) if he wasn't willing to play for his whole stack.

You said you're sure he's just going to shut it down if you flat. The only reason to flat his raise is to get him to bluff to turn. If you know he's not going to do that, there's not reason not to shove.

Looks good start to finish. Maybe slightly more on the flop. You should shove because villain will never put you on a 5.
