I bet $50, he shoved, I called as there was $330 in the pot and it was $90 more to me. Villain tabled KQ and scooped with top two.

So people who said b/f were right I guess. Thing is, this was a level 2 opponent, as most are these days, at least at my casino. I lick my chops if I actually see many level 1 players at the table.

He could see the K as a scare card for my perceived range Qx and bluff-shove a flush draw. He could also think the K missed me and value shove AQ, hoping I make a crying call with Qx. Combinatorically, there are 6 KQ but a lot of missed draws and some random spazz out.

We really have to assume villain is straightforward to bet/fold top pair on the river getting more than 3:1, and I don't think that many are any more. Check/calling would have saved money here but generally is throwing away value. I can bet/fold most Qx here (although I'd be more inclined to check/call) but have to sigh-call Kx, otherwise b/f is exploitable. Flame away if you disagree.

I don't have any problem with the way that you played this. And I think calling is the right play.

many more combinations of heart draws than there are of KQ if you have one of the K's.

This is more of the K being a two outer. a K is the only card that you go broke with, and it is the only card that makes his hand strong enough for him to value shove there. As the hand plays out, he most likely thinks you have a smaller two pair or AQ and he needs to catch a card for his hand to be good.

Calling river is pretty terrible without a read. What is he shoving with that we beat?
