Your default Truisms

Obviously so much of poker is situational, but we all observe things repeatedly with standard players, and I'm interested in the common and uncommon ones people have.

I'll start off with three:

For standard players:

1) An early open limp reraise (from a deep stack) is nearly always AA or KK (sometimes but rarely AK)
2) A river reraise is nearly always very strong - the nuts, or very close
3) A speech before making a bet/raise is nearly always a very strong hand.

What are some others you observe:

Just because a player is really good doesn't mean they are making moves like Tom Dwan. Generally they're just all-around solid with few leaks.

5) everyone has leaks no exceptions

Re: Your default Truisms

1. "How much? I raise" = the nuts
2. River 3b = the nuts
3. c/c flop c/r turn = the effective nuts
4. c/c flop c/c turn c/r river = the effective nuts
5. it's hard to make a pair

Re: Your default Truisms

If a player says " I hate AK " or " I hate JJ" they are terrible and will have some strong hands in their limping range

bc they love playing these hands passively so they can be "shocked" when they don't win

If you are not sure whether to flat or re-raise AA preflop, it's hard to go badly wrong by raising.

Re: Your default Truisms

A couple of mine (which a large part of my strategy is built around) would be:

A) No one folds a good draw (such as a flush draw or OESD) on the flop for pretty much any size bet (like anything in the ~PSB+ region this applies pretty much 100%).

B) The size of your bet rarely makes any significant difference in calling frequency so long as the bet is considered "reasonable".

If their hand is shaking when they are making a bet it’s the effective nuts

That was my first thought too when I saw this thread title. I think it was you, maybe it was someone else, who said to repeat to yourself: "they are not playing back at me, they are not playing back at me." I took that advice to heart when I was newer and felt like people were bullying me. Turns out they almost never were.

Yeah, for sure. Having a bet/fold against 80% of players in thin value spots is huge in LSNL.

Sounds like a version of the Rob Farha theorem which states:

They always have it

Which is the first thing that came to mind when I saw the thread title.

Be real w/yourself. If you typically can’t play well past x amt of hrs then lean towards going home unless games are esp good

Speaking from experience, been shying away from that lately...

I think for me and not sure about others you also have to play a style you're comfortable with. I'm a bit, and I've moved more Tagish, but I just don't feel comfortable playing LAG.

Re: Your default Truisms

Same bet ott, especially when top pair has changed, usually means a weak hand.

Few Vs bet their draws; most bet their made hands to prevent them from being outdrawn. Hence you can often float IP with nothing and rep the draw that got there when V checks to you.

While this might not necessarily be a truism of the type this thread is looking for, I think this should be an incredibly important (and often overlooked) part of one's overall strategy.
