Why you shouldn't show your cards or tell the truth about your hand Why you shouldn't show your cards or tell the truth about your hand

So in my last session I was playing 1/3. My opponent is a 20 something white male who looks like he takes the game seriously, he might even be an aspiring pro for all I know. I do know that he is a reg in the casino I frequent.

So the hand begins with him raising UTG 4x (read - tight range)
MP Calls
I call in the CO or button w/ T7
Folds around

Flop was Q98r
He bets his standard 2/3 sizing
I raise and he folds and asks me what I had. I tell the truth (mistake) and he says "nice raise".

Now since I know my opponent is a smart guy, I expect him to adjust by calling w/ top pair or over pairs more often to my flop raises but I also know he is capable of folding 1 pair if he thinks I don't have enough semi-bluffs.

What would the correct adjustment be?

Unless you're pretty deep, fold pre. Our hand is way too speculative.

Also, unless you showed your cards, he doesn't really know what you had.

Fold pre

Flop raise is one of the nut bluff raises blocking jt, especially with a bdfd

As for your comment he now may call lighter but you can use this to your advantage aswell, levelling wars really.

Terrible call but I'd gladly show the table that hand and have them think I'm full of it. (Unless you often are full of it, in which case don't show.)

The adjustment is don't bluff after that but watch your value bets get called.

The other equally obvious adjustment is stop making dumb pre-flop calls like that. But if you do make those calls, do them in position against opponents who fold too easily.

Yeah, just don't say anything. If you feel you have to say something, just say, "I got lucky."

I'm not sure saying what you had is any worse than occasionally being caught bluffing. It may mean this opponent gives you more value. It might also make him less inclined to Cbet oop and give you more control when in position. You just have to observe and adjust.

Fold pre, to be honest people wont or should, take what you did for 1 hand thinking they always know how you play.
Now if you are consistanly cold calling 4xbb utg raises people are going to notice and give you a wider range, then they will start to play back at you and call down lighter.
You should really pay attention to how this guy is Cbetting and what type of boards he is doing it on as from what i can gather him he just seems to auto cbet into multi players
Again this is only based on 1 hand
As for telling people what you had I think in general you need to keep people guessing as showing or telling people gives them a little too much info having said that Showing sone crazy bluff at the rigjt time can get yoy good action later on when you have the nuts is always a nice thing

We are missing the most relevant piece of information (as usual for 2p2 HH's): effective stacks for everyone involved

I don't really care much if I show my hand from time to time. I always have hands that I'll call, hands that I'll fold, hands that I will bluff in my range so it's whatever.

It's good to let them know that you're willing to bluff at least. Just show up with the goods more often than not. Be cautious bluffing the rest of the table in big pots after you show/get caught/announce one, but bluff the same guy twice in a row in the right spot, he won't expect you to put one over on him twice in a row.

you didn´t even show your hand.
as for adjusting, I feel most of you are way overblowing the situation.
It was just one hand. If he is any good he´s not making too much adjustments based on one hand he didn´t even see.

Don't play T7s the only one maybe T9s, 98s A5s .. etc.

Now, about showing your hand: If you show your hand you got to play tight and hit flops hard from that point on. After couple strong hands in the showdown you can again semibluf but do it with 12+ outs like a OESD+2 overs.

See what type of villains you got in your game. If hey are decent players you can do another bluff the next hand because they think you don't have the balls to bluff again with air.

But in general tight play will make money if you know your own "outs", your "bluffing outs", value betting and understand what power of betting's doing for your "outs" (it gains more outs.. , Yes, it gains..). You should be able to use about 1/2 deck of remaining cards and you'll be crashing the tourists and all the wannabe cards players. Look around the table and pick-up 2-3 victims and study them and make a baseline behavior profile of how they react to a raise or if they call too much or how they call or bet with a hand or with a monster. Exploit the monkey's playing style by detecting his tendencies based on his baseline profile as I said before and uses these tendencies to make decisions against them. That's easy stuff to do, .. wtf?.. not a big deal. Just pay attentions. And them you'll pick up your suspect, grab his face and slam him to the floor...and make him scream and cry for his life (LOL). He will fold.

And if you could do that you could a winner every day you play regardless what game because you look for victims only. ..., If you could do that .... you become a hustler that's a couple notches above a great TAG solid player. ..., If could do that ...bro

I never show bluffs. Only show when you actually have the goods. Make people feel good about how they play. Just say you flopped bottom set. Lying about your hand is allowed
