I think our turn play *might* also be affected by our image. If we have an image of a 3 barrel postflop monkey, then we're much more likely to get called down lightly (such as by an underpair). But if we don't have this image, our turn bet is much more likely to fold very mediocre hands that would have payed off one more street. I keep forgetting that not everyone's table image is the same as nutpeddler mine. So maybe your turn play should differ depending on your overall style / image.

As for dgi's initial comments above, I'll disagree with some of them.

I'm all for fastplaying monsters. TP3K on the turn ain't a monster. And it's only going to turn into a monster 18% - 25% of the time by the river (from the turn).

I'll also address his 5 hand types:

A) It's difficult to get a light calldown over 3 streets just cuz there is a draw on board. I think a lot of villains will simply give up on the turn while stating "nice bluff". But this could be very image dependent; the more aggrotard our image, the more we get called down lightly.

B) In typical passive games, I don't think we're getting raised much on the turn by anything other than great made hands. QQ ain't raising this turn just cuz they think we may be FOS.

C) We're definitely losing money against draws if we check the turn, except perhaps against an aggro guy who might bet it for us. But there's not a lot of draws on the flop other than the same one we have. I'll include weaker TP Kx hands as "drawing" hands too, and yes, we're definitely missing value against those hands; thing is, there really shouldn't be too many TP hands here that we're ahead of.

D) We play in different games if a typical villain is raising the turn cuz he's on a draw.

E) With air, we risk practically nothing by letting the turn check thru. We're way ahead, and might even force a bluff or enable them to hit something on the river worth paying off.

And this is ignoring the most common way people play very mediocre hand types (such as an underpair), which I think actually makes up a decent portion of this guy's range. He called the flop cuz he simply doesn't believe us. But he's probably not going to call 3 postflop streets to find out if he's right; but if we check the turn, we probably get one more bet out of him (especially when his stack isn't at risk).
