Hand i played last night.
Background:
Table full of droolers. Lots of weak attempts at bluffing going on, as in raise/folding in stupid spots.
Villain is a weak semi-aggro Asian kid who i've played with before. Clearly thinks he's a winning player but he's not. I've got a tight image, not sure if a winning image or not because people don't pay attention. I'm pretty confident in my post flop skills in this game and that villains are capable of spewing TPTK, because they're usually good in this game against the other opponents at the table but i'm generally a lot tighter. Villain is capable of folding but has a hard time letting go of top pair type hands and will level himself into calling if he has already put a good % of stack in.
Stacks:
Game: 50p/50p, 8 handed.
Hero £75, Villain covers sitting with about £90.
Hand:
Hero is in MP, Villain on BTN.
Hero looks down at Q
J
and limps 50p. 2 calls, Villain calls, blinds check.
POT: £3, Hero £74.50, Villain £89.50.
Flop comes Q8Jr.
Checks round to Hero who fires £3. Folds to Villain who makes it £10. Everyone else folds. Hero calls.
POT: £23 Hero £64.50, Villain £79.50
Turn comes Q8J4r
Hero checks, Villain fires out £30. Hero shoves. Villain (to my surprise) tanks for 30 seconds before calling.
Thoughts?
My take:
I limped pre because on this table, any raise pre was going multiway and i didn't want to commit chips knowing i'm going to have to check/fold a pretty marginal hand if i miss/make second pair.
Leading out on the flop because there are so many draws and 2 pair combos that these villains will pay for, they are the call call check/fold river when they miss type, so i wanted to charge the ones who had pairs/draws.
When i'm raised on the flop i'm ranging him on big draws (tendency to bluff) and 2 pair type hands. I think there's a good chance he has KQ or AQ and a few K/AJ type hands in there, so i decide to just call to try and put him to a tough decision for his stack on the turn.
Luckily for me, the turn comes an absolute brick, and i'm only really scared of a 9. Now he's fired again at the turn though, i'm convinced he has a set or 2 pair. Probably wrong because of the tank when i shove over the top.
I'm never ever folding vs this villain once i flop 2 pair but what do you think we can range him on? I don't know whether to post the results now or not, so once we get some ideas on his range/my play i'll let you know what happened after the turn cause it could be significant to the answers.
