What percentage of starting hands do you play? What percentage of starting hands do you play?

Obviously anyone can answer, that it depends on the table. But i am curious of what hands you would call or play for a single standard raise where u expect to go multiway to the flop in a 9person 1/2 cash game with everyone having around 100bb? I play alot of new opponents where I dont have any info other what I gather starting when I sit down. I have been playing all Pairs, suited broadway cards, suited and unsuited AT-AK, and all suited aces. And then the occassional suited small connectors. Thoughts and feedback appreciated.

I think from every position raising 99+ and AJ+, reraising QQ+ as well as AQs+ is standard tag. as you get later in position these requirements go down (if it folds to you on the button you might raise any pp for instance)

all other hands are played purely under perfect circumstances (in position with implied odds versus the correct opponents)

i routinely fold AJ- to tight opponents who raise from ep and re raise them versus loose opponents from MP, for instance

LLSNL is interesting in that you should almost always be varying your opening ranges from different positions based on the table conditions.

If you're just looking for some basic opening range charts then you can find those online pretty easily. I know upswing poker offers free basic opening range charts.

With reasonable accuracy, I'm playing 30/17

Compare to my online FR of 18/13.

Doug Polk was playing 40vpip at a recent LatB vs 5/10 regs. Maybe 40vpip is what we can aim for if we are significantly better than the rest of the table.

If you play well post flop and play 30/17 you're going to be a freaking nightmare to play against. If you play 30/17 and play super aggro post flop you will probably get killed. Ive seen people do both.

I think 40vpip is way too high no matter how good you are.

Winning at 30/17 at LLSNL is damn impressive. I’ve been trying recently to open up my game a little more pre, but I still only play 88+, AQo+ from EP since I don’t feel my post flop skill is strong enough to overcome the position disadvantage yet. I probably play a little wider than top 30% but that’s not all the time and only under certain conditions.

I basically only play these hands: any pocket pair (raising 10-10+ from any position, limping the rest and folding 55 and lower to a raise), raising AQ, AK from any position, AJs from middle position to late position. I fold AJ and lower facing a raise from earlier position. I mostly limp the other broadway combos and suited connectors and fold them to a raise. I will occasionally raise suited connectors, but almost never the dominated broadways unless in late position (just too much risk that opponent will have a dominating hand). That’s about it. I’m new to 1/2 and about break even.

Pretty much this.

If you are looking for a starting hand chart, almost every entry level book with have one. In addition, stronger winning players will play more hands than weaker winning players. Even if you got a detailed description from a crusher in the game, it wouldn't be necessarily a winning strategy for you.

Therefore, I'm going to lock this thread.
